traveling abroad while removing conditional green card status

Our green card is about to expire in September, so we will get the documentation sent out in June. However, we are also planning an international trip in October.

1. for removing conditional status on the GC, what is the current time line? Assuming no issues, will we get the 10yr GC before our trip?

2. If it is still 'in progress' by the time our trip date arrives, can we still travel abroad with no issues? Anything we need to do?

3. As long as passport from original home country is still valid, we dont need an actual u.s passport to travel right?

1) About a year. You won't have the replacement by the time you travel.

2) Yes you can travel. Simply carry the expired green card together with the original extension letter USCIS will send you upon receipt of the I-751, and you can travel and work without issue.

3) Only US citizens and US nationals can obtain US passports.

1. Depends where your RoC is processed. I had mine back in only 4 months. Some people are waiting a year. It's basically completely unpredictable, like the rest of the process.

We traveled to Jordan while my husband was removing conditions and he had no issues using the extension letter.
