Welcome to the forum! Read the first post on this thread. it has a lot of really good information. It also has the link to the NVC process which is super helpful. Here it is for easy reference: http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/NVC_Process

Also read the Department of State website to understand it from there as well: https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/immigrant-process/approved/contact.html

There are a lot of helpful people on this forum, so read through the Wiki process multiple times and ask questions when you have it. Remember to keep your timeline updated. it will help when people are helping you.

I hope you started gathering the documents needed for this stage while you were waiting for your petition to be approved. If you did, this stage will go faster for you.

The other important thing to remember is you will need to be proactive with NVC. you will be calling them quite often during this stage.

Congratulations!

Thanks a lot of this helpful information LinJoe, but i am little confused because i was reading the visa journey information about nvc step that is looking defferent than this one becuase there is not mentioned that you will call them there is mentioned that after you got your NOA2 and then the NVC will send you the packet of document that you and your spouse will complete it here the link of that

http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1

i read from here " What Happens After You Mail the I-130 Out?"

i don't know which one the correct one and i should follow ?

Use the links I provided. NVC doesn't mail you anything. you have to be proactive and keep calling them to confirm they received your approved petition from USCIS. Then keep calling them to see if they assigned a case number and invoice number for you. Then call them to review your DS-261. Then after you send your AOS and IV packets, you'll call to confirm they received it. Then you'll call to find out case complete. Lots of calling on your part.

When you give NVC your email at this point it's simply so they can send correspondence to you via email so your don't have to wait on regular mail which takes longer. They don't automatically email things to you unless you give them your email at this point.

I know this part if the process is new and can be confusing but trust that the information in the wiki guide is very good it's what all these other VJ members have used and were successful in obtaining their visas.

USCIS and the Department of State (NVC) are two separate divisions. USCIS is only responsible for approving your petition and the documents you sent with it. If you want email correspondence then you need to call and provide that information to NVC after they confirm they have received your petition.

Yes, I called them quite frequently and anyone else that has gone through this stage will tell you the same. Trust me when I say If you want things to keep moving for your case in the NVC stage, then I and everyone else on this forum will advise you to be proactive and call them.

As Keas mentioned, the link has all the information you need. From personal experience calling in the evening time (USA evening time) has nicer Representatives that answer the phones than those in the day time.

Good luck on your journey.

I also live abroad and to get everything done I called. To keep the expenses down I called exactly at 8am est. There was never a wait. Remember this is government stuff and they aren't so efficient. You have to repeat information everywhere.
