+1 to this - You are not passing your interview on the way you're dressed. However, use common sense. No rips, no cleavage, cover-up. The interviewer is going to have an impression of you before you open your mouth so why not make it neutral? It's not an interview for Hot Topic so don't show-up dressed like Harley Quinn. :D

Again, the above is my opinion only..... but to be clear - the US Embassy doesn't really give a rats a$$ that you'd like to dress so you feel like yourself or That its Star Wars day. It's a business, grown-up situation and you want to come across as respectful.

But what if I am Harley Quinn? ?

Very cute dress! what can be offensive or off-putting about R2D2? you're not applying for a job at the consulate.

It's a reasonably conservative cut and with flats and a cardigan as you describe, I can't see why that would have a negative effect on your interview. Now, if you were planning to go in Leia's outfit as Jabba the Hutt's captive, that would be a different story! ;)

Good luck to you!

Casual is fine. When I was at MTL in early April, I had jeans, a polo along with a windbreaker and a hoodie [it was really cold, layers]. Most folks in the IV group were casual and there was one couple in their Sunday best. I don't think the CO's care that much.

I honestly can't remember exactly what I wore that day, but I can remember making note of all the different ranges of styles. Some people were dressed right up and others had flip flops. I know we were a little dressy, probably biz-casual. I can remember thinking why anyone would go with torn jeans and flip flops to something so important. :/

You need to dress the way you want to. You need to be YOU.

They will already have an opinion about you and if you aren't comfortable in business dress then don't wear it. Why wear something that doesn't represent you?.
