Credit Card: unable to confirm identity

When my husband's employer did a background check on him they couldn't confirm his SS number as he was issued a brand new number. The employer had to contact SS directly to confirm it. Do you know if it's a new number?

I will say that when he applied for credit cards and a car loan there was no issue, but when he applied for our home mortgage the bank had to contact SS to confirm

you do not cancel a credit card. It will hurt your credit score. The length of your oldest credit card is a major factor in when other companies determine if they want to give you a card.

True (I have one ), but I was referring to the Quicksilver One which is pretty much the same CC as QS only with an AF and is usually a Master Card instead of Visa.

It's essentially a QS for people with a lower credit rating. Although I'd rather go for a no-AF Platinum since you can do a product change down the road once you establish some history with Capital One and I think people have had more luck going Platinum to QS than removing the AF from QSOne.

This is normal for people with short/nonexistent credit histories.

More than once when I was starting out, I had to fax copies of my Social Security card and ID to a lender before they would let me open an account.

These days I'm usually ok, but it still crops up on occasion.

I am in the same boat.. I worked for a while, I have a separate bank account (wells fargo) Just this year, my husband and I is trying to establish a credit for myself, so I went ahead to apply for a secured card in Wells Fargo and I got denied, I got a letter stating that I don't have any credit history. I just wondered where my deductions go then, also they(credit union) wanted me to provide two ID with the same address only problem is I'm in the process of my ROC and all my ID's are expired. Frustrating

Capital One have a good intro secured card, as do Merrick Bank. I kept my Merrick for about a year, before my credit became good enough to qualify for unsecured cards, at which point I closed it.
