Cleveland buying prisoner vans, pickup trucks, more body armor for Republican National Convention

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland is planning to buy more public safety-related stuff for the Republican National Convention.

On Wednesday, the city posted documents to its website indicating it seeks to buy:

• 14 pickup trucks, ranging in size from 8,500 pounds to 12,800 pounds for the city's police and fire departments
• 11 conversion vans, some of which would be used as prisoner-transport vehicles, some of which would have workspaces in the back with desks and plywood flooring for use by public-safety officials.
• 100 sets of body armor, which would be labeled with Cleveland Fire identification badges
• 11 "utility task vehicles" (UTVs) — think high-powered golf carts — which would be used by EMS workers to transport patients
• 7 UTVs which would be assigned to the city's public works department

The city will file for the purchases to be reimbursed through a $50 million federal grant meant to pay for security for the convention, scheduled for July 18-21 in downtown Cleveland.

The event is expected to attract up to 50,000 visitors, and a significant number of protesters. Cleveland is putting together an expanded police force of thousands of officers, recruiting from outside agencies, to oversee security for the GOP convention.

Other items the city has bought or sought to buy through the convention-security grant include 2,000 sets of riot gear, 10,000 sets of plastic handcuffs, 2,400 "Camelbak" water packs, 300 bicycles, eight sets of mounted night-vision goggles, hay and raincoats for police horses, 15 motorcycles and a horse trailer.

I believe the number of incidents could be whittled down to one short one after which the convention could peacefully get on with business

But I do recall the 8 plus years of racist ranting regarding the Kenyan/Muslim/Anti-Christ/Manchurian Candidate who lives only to take everyone's sacred 2nd Amendment rights and ruin the beautiful Nation built on good old fashioned Conservative values as God intended.

Since it was brought up I wonder if elevated tendency to aggression and violence, inability to cope with the overwhelming responsibility of workplace or classroom, making and abandoning kids by fathers, and a parasitic relationship with the communities around you can also be attributed to genetics.

Mantra or not, the rate is still 8x higher and it had nothing to do with the reports issued about it or the people who talk about the reports or the data in the reports. I'm wondering now since y'all brought up genetics could that explain this? Please elaborate more.

I didn't bring up genetics. I told you that how you, echoing the RW Echo Chamber, point to Black on Black crime is a way to dog whistle a racist myth. White on White crime, cooking the valid source you are using is just as much a real thing, which is to say that neither are real. The percentages are roughly equivalent when you break the numbers down. Why? Crime tends to occur where people live so Blacks tend to be victims of Black crime, Whites nearly the same rate of victimization but by White criminals.
