Help with renewing UK Passport

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has been through my current situation...I have recently been granted my IR-1 and am currently in the US.

My current UK passport with my Visa Page is in this passport, and I have not yet received my physical Green Card.

I need to renew my passport and I was wondering if I have to inform USCIS or anyone in the USA about my new passport number?

If so do I need to send it off or do I keep both passports with me until my Green Card arrives and is my visa still valid in my old passport?

I can;t seem to find any information online...

How long do you have until your passport expires? Are you anticipating needing to travel overseas anytime soon?

Since you don't yet have your physical green card, the endorsed immigrant visa in your passport is currently your only proof of your LPR status. I would not be in any hurry to remove that from your possession until you had your plastic green card.

Expect the turnaround on your new passport to be around a month - longer if you leave it until the summer months, since that's peak travelling season.

When I renewed my daughter's British passport a year ago, it took about a month to receive it back.

Unfortunately, all renewals now have to be sent to the UK, instead of being processed at the British Embassy in DC.

Once renewed, you don't have to inform anyone of your change in passport status (only the number will change), since you have completed the process.

I'd wait until you have your physical green card on you, so you still have that identification proof for working or whatever, and then as soon as it comes submit for a new passport. There's no problem having an out of date passport while in the USA - it's just a pain if you had wanted to travel abroad.

You don't need to tell the USA about your new British passport.

You'll never need that visa in your passport again. You used it up when you entered and it's just temporary evidence of your LPR status.
