Convicted child molester going to your child's school

How did you know he was a convicted child molester if you didn't know his name?

My co-worker had his little girls mother living with her for a while. Once this guy was released from prison he was staying at her home with her roommate and his daughter. She kicked them out because she didn't want anything to do with that. I'm going to find out this guys name Monday when I'm back at work.

Get the guy's name and look him up before you ruin his life based on potentially suspect thirdhand information. I believe you're honest, and I believe you have good intentions, but the laws in your area are pretty clear, and I'm finding it hard to believe that the cops know this guy has molested three kids and are fine with him visiting at school. Even if there aren't registry laws that cover child molestation, there's usually restrictions on being around schools.

Something in this story isn't adding up at all.

In the meantime, if you and the other parents are concerned, can one of you go up to school to eat lunch with your kids?

I'm just telling you what I know. My friend who knows this man personally and is the one that kicked him out of her home called the authorities as well and was told that in some cases, since the children that were affected by this are no longer minors, then different rules apply. I know what the law says, but belieive me, one that has been through hell and back due to a crazy ex....the law is not always inforced. All I know is that I'm going to keep my eyes open and watch his every move. I'm not out to ruin anyones life, just protecting my daughters.

If we really believe that they can never stop, don't we have a responsibility to lock them up forever?

Yes, IMO, but also to make that as comfortable as possible (within reason) for the rest of their lives, just as soon as they have paid their debt to society. Lock them up in their own facilities, as they are doing now in some areas.

Why? And if we give this kind of treatment to pedophiles, who are deemed incurable, why not the same treatment to other criminals deemed incurable? Savage murderers, for example?

Build jails and populate them. Throw out the lists.

It could very well be the authorities don't know much about the law or just don't give a rip. Or they could just be one of those corrupt departments...they do exist here in the good ol' US of A. Of course, definately get the guy's name and make sure...but if this is true, there is NO way in hell I'd continue to condone this person being around my child or anyone else's child. If the school isn't aware of someone's record, how can they restrict them from coming in the school?

Um....what is eating lunch with your child going to accomplish as far as getting to the bottom of this situation?

If a savage murderer is also mentally ill, and that's why he or she killed, then yeah, keep 'em locked up until rehabilitation has been achieved beyond a doubt. But sex offenses are different than other crimes because they are based in sexual compulsion and mental illness that is usually incurable.

Fair enough. I am not meaning at all to libel your intentions, please believe that. It's just that it sounds too unbelievable for it all to be at face value.

KarenCee, you'd get to be around your kid, watch the guy's interactions, assess the threat for yourself. What's putting the guy on a registry list going to do for the situation? If he's still permitted to come to the school, nothing's changed. It's not like the list does anything but inform, and everyone's already informed. If there's nothing the law can do, the best you can do is arm yourself with information, and that includes seeing how the guy interacts around the kids.

And I did say "in the meantime." It's not going to be an overnight thing where the police swoop in and I don't know, find some pretense to keep him off the school grounds (since they've already said there's nothing to be done legally).

And in all this mess, there's another daughter out there who probably doesn't know why no one likes her dad.

I heard a story about a guy publicly urinating and they locked him up as a 'sex crimes offender'

he now has to register his whereabouts.

THIS I find ludicrous.

but completely unsurprising.

anytime we whip up a mass hysteria, the most absurd and/or unimaginable outcome will come to fruition.

This is pretty much the reason I'm against the registry laws. They're going to result in too many false hits (public urination = indecent exposure, hope he didn't urinate on school property) and result in too little information to be useful. 'Sex offender' is a really broad brush.

In Okla that would be filed as OUTRAGING PUBLIC DECENCY and if found guilty it would be a MISD. and if a child was near maybe more as in indecent exposure.

It's just that it sounds too unbelievable for it all to be at face value.

What's unbelievable is that a guy who has been locked up for eight years has a five year old, for starters. What's unbelievable that the cops know about it, can do something, and are choosing not to, because 'good ol' U.S. of A.' comments aside, child abuse is one thing that gets most communities and local police departments hopping. What's unbelievable is that all the parents knows about this, down to the ages of the children molested, but not the guy's name. What's unbelievable is that in Missouri, a guy convicted of three counts (minimum) of child molestation gets eight years when first-degree child molestation is a class A felony for which there's no parole.

So it sounds to me like someone's got his wires crossed somewhere. Or it might just be that the cops can't do anything. I'm not sure what people are expecting them to do.

Well....for the record the little girl is 9.....I don't beleive I said she was 5. This little girl has a lot of developmental issues, thus the reason for her still being in a younger aged classroom. And for the record, I don't give a rats ### what Missouri 'says.' I've lived here all my life and beleive me what they say is the law, what they say will get done, blah, blah, blah, done NOT get done. My ex beat the $hit outta me, I was in the hospital for a month and he got a whole whoppin 6 months. I have no faith in the justice system whatsoever now.

Here's the situation: A child in my daughters kindergarten class, her father was just released from prison approx a month ago for 3 convictions of child molestation. I'll add that the children he molested were two 8 year old girls and a 9 year old boy. He served 8 years. Now this guy goes to the school everyday, has lunch with his daughter, is going on field trips and is always around the school. I was under the impression that a convicted sex offender could not be so many feet from a school so I called the authorities here and asked many questions. They tell me that he DOES NOT have to register as a sex offender (depending on what the crime was) and that yes, some sex offenders are allowed to go to the schools when they have children there. The other parents and I are in an outrage. What gives??? I thought all these laws being made are to protect our children....not to put them right in arms way of a sex offender. At any rate....the other mothers and I are not done protesting. Don't know what we have to do exactly, but we're going to make sure he stays away from our kids.

He can't file for immigration benefits thanks to Adam Walsh, but the sick F**** is allowed in our schools. The government needs to practice what it preaches.
