Convicted child molester going to your child's school

Here's the situation: A child in my daughters kindergarten class, her father was just released from prison approx a month ago for 3 convictions of child molestation. I'll add that the children he molested were two 8 year old girls and a 9 year old boy. He served 8 years. Now this guy goes to the school everyday, has lunch with his daughter, is going on field trips and is always around the school. I was under the impression that a convicted sex offender could not be so many feet from a school so I called the authorities here and asked many questions. They tell me that he DOES NOT have to register as a sex offender (depending on what the crime was) and that yes, some sex offenders are allowed to go to the schools when they have children there. The other parents and I are in an outrage. What gives??? I thought all these laws being made are to protect our children....not to put them right in arms way of a sex offender. At any rate....the other mothers and I are not done protesting. Don't know what we have to do exactly, but we're going to make sure he stays away from our kids.

Wow thats a hard one. Some are of the belief they can (change) i would feel the same as you. I also dont understand why he would be allowed around other children or not have to register. Then you have to think of his child, now no other child will ever be allowed to go play at their house for the fear that would be there. What did the school say, when asked about it?

Then you have to think of his child, now no other child will ever be allowed to go play at their house for the fear that would be there. What did the school say, when asked about it?

I'm the once that actually went to the school principal and voiced my concerns. Then the other parents followed. A lot of the parents were/are worried about hurting this guys feelings, but I keep thinking about the 3 kids lives that he messed up. I know people change. I just don't think coming directly from prison to a school yard is in the best interest of anyone. I was 6 when my a$$hole of an uncle tried things with me and I can't imagine what I'd do if anyone ever touched my daughter. It really messes a person up no matter how much to try to put it in the past. I did tell the school principal that if anyone ever touched my child they better hope their lives is in Gods hand, because then it would be in miine.

what state are you in? and have you checked online to see if the attorney general posts a list of convicted sex offenders?

Missouri.....I've been searching to see what I can find.

No you cant chance anything, its not poor him at this point. There have been many cases where they came back into a normal society, but then later down the road something happened. Dont ever chance your child with something like that and i know you wont. Call just your local police dept also, they will know or the district attorneys office. Eight years is a long time usually they serve 1/3 of their total sentence so he was guilty probably of at least 24/25 year sentence no laughing matter.

see.....that's exactly what I thought, but everyone I spoke with today tells me there are new laws out now and not everyone has to register. Tell you what....I find out his name....I'll register his a$$!

Here is a website that I have used before (work related). It is a good site that lists registered sex offender and often plots their location on a map. You can also click LIST and see a list of the offenders without having to view a map.
