No Jamis2. Her passport does not have my last name. I dug some older discussions up and there seemed to be a consensus that the Visa can only be issued with the name in the passport; likewise the GC and SSN. If this is true, then I guess we are out of luck now.

Worst case scenario, we'll just wait till ROC time or even When she's ready to apply for citizenship God willing. It seems SSN name is easier to change but GC is 'long' and costly.

I wouldn't worry about it then. Just make sure that she takes the change of name documents with her to her interview.

How they investigate social media ? Because me and my wife dont have facebook ! We just have instagram and its private ! Ia that a problem ? They still can check our insta even if its private ? I really need help

I wouldn't worry about it. After all it's not mandatory to have (public) profiles on social media or something. I guess it's just like IF you have - for example- a Facebook profile they might check it out to see if you actually show some kind of relationship "proof" on there. Like pics, common friends and such.

Then again, in most cases I guess they won't really be able to see much cause every sane person has set most stuff set to "private" or share things with friends only anyway.

So, no worries ☺

Question in regards to the medical results. Did anyone who did their medical and pick up collect a x-ray disc? The disc is for POE correct? I've had a rough day today so it kind of slipped me as to what exactly the lady said to me when I picked up the results. Also is it just for Jamaica or do other countries give x-ray results on a disc also?

I got a disc with the X-ray during my medical. I was told to take it to the interview and of course to POE. My interview is in a couple of days so I'll know then if they ask for it but I'll sure take it with me.

It didnt give me the option to pick up at embassy. I had to choose an location..

Hi, sorry for the late reply. You did not quote my last post so I did not get the notification that you responded lol!

Anyways, just get a contact for the DHL location that you signed up for your passport collection and call them 2moro :)

Also, if the DHL courier is delivering your passport to your home, then they would have requested a phone contact when the application for passport collection/delivery was being done. That is what they do for Trinidad embassy tho....DHL is the registered courier service for our embassy so I have the option to have it delivered to my home/office or I can collect it at the embassy or at a convenient DHL location. Either way, a phone contact is required.

Gents, need your 2cent, if I have a connecting flight from Toronto to Dallas, will Canada immigration check me through with the current us immigrant visa? This is cos I need to claim my luggage and recheck it in, then use yyz as POE

Hi Deji,

I am not certain if your question was addressed but here goes: Your POE will be in one of the US states or territories...it cannot be in Canadian territory. Therefore, when you are coming into to Pearson, you must proceed thru Immigration and Customs in the Visitors' line. When you get to the counter, let the officer know that you are here with a US immigrant visa packet and have a connecting flight to Dallas (show them your Dallas flight boarding pass, if need be). They will know how to process you without tampering with your sealed envelope destined for US CBP Officials ;)

Then once your are done, check luggage for your connecting flight to Dallas.

Hi Amadia,

Thanks for your input. You the only person that has responded to the query.

I must however also bring to your awareness that Toronto Pearson is a valid POE for immigrant visa to the USA.

I guess the part I really need clarification on with my question is, can I check into Canada immigration with the US IV for the sole purpose of claiming my bag and checking it in for a connecting flight as the flight itenary does not automatically transfer my luggage.

Hey Amadia,

Thanksagain. I have seen this video Hence, I knew YYZ (Pearson) is a POE.

It still unfortunately does not help me.

If I did not need to re-check my luggage in at Toronto, I will not be asking questions. :(

Deji,

I think I understand your issue. If you cannot get your airline to check your bag all the way through to Dallas (I'm assuming your carriers are not in the same alliance, and that is why they won't do that), I think you will have to enter Canada on a transit visa, collect your luggage, then go to your second airline, check in for your Dallas flight and then proceed through the US immigration counter.

I would be asking your original airline to clarify the procedures in Toronto. Allow yourself plenty of time to change flights. And look up info about the Canadian transit visa.

I know the Canadian/US process in Vancouver, Canada is dependent upon the time of day you go through. If you are very early or very late, this process might change.

Best of luck!

You can have a look at http://www.torontopearson.com/Connecting.aspx and input international -> US and list your airlines for a step by step of where you'll have to go.

You do have to pass through CBSA to get to your baggage to recheck it for the Canada -> US leg of your flight, but I doubt you will have much problem as you are in transit and not staying in the country. As long as you do not have anything that flags you as inadmissible as a visitor to Canada in the first place this shouldn't take much time.

You would pick up your baggage past Canadian customs and recheck it for your next flight, after this you will have to go back through security and then on to US customs. This is a different set of people with a different agency than when you check into Canada, and they will need to see your unopened visa package. You will be taken into secondary screening to complete issuing your visa. For further information on this part you can check out the POE reviews for YYZ :)

edit: As Sukie said you'll want to be sure you have enough time between flights! As you'll be going through two customs lineups, security, AND secondary inspection this has the potential to be very time consuming!

Thanks a lot for your advise. I will be looking into another flight alternative as I will hate to find myself in a fix all because I was looking for cheap flight lol

Oh, also as per these pages an eTA is needed to transit through Canada as of this past March, however they'll still allow you entry to board your flight up until Sept 29, after which they will enforce it. That said, it's a $7 application for peace of mind so you may want to do it anyway.

Best of luck with your travels!

Deji - I think you will still have to deal with your bag in Toronto - either through physically picking it up, or, identifying it via video. It's easier if you are flying in the same alliance - the airlines will help you more than if you are traveling on two separate alliances. Is there any way you can fly directly to a US airport for your POE?

Good luck!
