-My Green Card expires on September 16th 2016 and I have just completed the online application for the renewal of the GC on the USCIS website a few days ago.

-When granted permanent residency in 2006, I was a sponsored immigrant and have met the requirements of 40 quarters of work in the US a while ago now.

-I am currently employed until the end of June 2016, due to contract break contingency however, my contract will not be renewed.

-I have a great work record with very few months of inactivity and have never received unemployment benefits so far in my 10 years of residence. I would for the first time in July if I were not to find a job/contract right away.

-I have a great credit, no criminal record, paid all my revenue taxes to the IRS and own property.

The question is what are my chances to see my Green Card renewed if I am unemployed at the time of the actual renewal?

I would of course consider taking any job if I were to hear that being unemployed is a major issue despite proof of other requirements (taxes paid, no criminal charges, etc) however this is not a guarantee either for me to get a job for which I am not necessarily qualified for.

Does anybody have insight?

Note: I am not willing at this point to apply for citizenship and have already engaged and paid for the Green Card renewal process.

I don't see how it would matter? It's not a work visa, you are a permanent resident. You can collect unemployment if you need to since you paid into the system.

Your green card never technically expires, it's just the I-551/card that needs updating every 10 years.
