Can I change my name in SS after I get married?

We went to SS after we get married to change out names, but the information I receave is that before I change my name with the SS I have to change the name related to all the visa paperwork, other way when they try to run the new name will not match my Visa paperwork, since will have my old name on it, is that correct?

I have seen it written both ways. Get a SSN before married with existing paperwork and then get it changed after married showing the marriage certificate. Or, get an SSN after married. If they are looking to match up your paperwork, they should be able to see your maiden name on your marriage certificate matching your Visa paperwork. I don't see how you can change you Visa paperwork at this point or even if you can/should.

You are supposed to be able to get the SSN in the married name using your marriage certificate, however many people find that they are told the SSN cannot be issued right away when the name on the application does not match what is in the SAVE database(name on K-1 visa). Apply for the SSN in the maiden name, and apply for AOS in the married name. Once you get the EAD/AP or green card in married name, then go back and change the name on the SSN.
