This is a good amount of information/questions, so id like to thank ANYONE who takes the time to help me. I just want to make sure I get this right the first time.

Finally getting around to filling out the i-864 and had a few questions/things to clear up. I have googled all of these and searched BUT the wording on these official forms can be confusing/contradicting so i figured id list a few of my concerns here and see if i can get a clear answer. Thank you ahead of time! :)

Items in BOLD are the ones i need help with :)

Question 3. Information about the immigrants you are sponsoring.

Details: I am only sponsoring my wife. No kids, no family.

Question 3.1- I am sponsoring the principal immigrant named in part 2.

Answer: YES (seems obvious, i am only sponsoring my wife, whose information is in part 2)

And then it moves on to "Family Member 1."

Do I put my wifes information yet again in this section as "family member 1" or is the information i provided in part 2 enough?

Do I enter in "none or N/A" in every other family member question? or is leaving it blank ok?

I am a US citizen, when it asks me for my A#, do I put in the A# that was printed next to my name on the NOA2? I've never used this number before but it is printed there.

Question 5 (this is common as I see this asked all the time)

1. Provide the number you entered in part 3.28 (im assuming it is 1, since i am sponsoring my wife)

Question 5.3

If you are currently married....well yes 1.

So for question 5.8 "add together...." Do I enter 2 or 3? (The common sense answer is 2, since I only support my wife and I, but the way the question is worded the answer is 3. Very interesting choice of words.

Part 8

Am I now considered the "sponsor" and not the "petitioner"? I do understand english so I would check off box 1a? or leave this blank?

Sign under "sponsor" part 6a?

Part 10.

I am filling this form out myself, no need to fill out a preparers section correct?

On the instructions page, it states that all petitioners MUST submit a copy of their most recent tax return including W2's, forms 1099, pay stubs from the last 6 months, or a letter from my employer.

I have my tax transcripts straight from the IRS for years 2015, 2014, 2013, and 2012. I can print out my paystubs for the last 6 months no problem. Is that enough or are they REALLY looking for W2's and 1099 forms. I have never heard of someone submitting that unless they couldnt get their tax transcripts.

Thank you so much for those who take the time to help. I really do appreciate it.

Are you the only sponsor (you don't have a joint sponsor)? Are you not eligible to use the I-864EZ? Just asking because if you meet the 3 criteria of I-864EZ, it's a lot easier.

I just took a look and it does look like i do qualify. I am using my own income, only my wife so that would qualify under the 3.

hmm, this changes things ha. Thank you.

Looking at the form though, the question is still worded awkwardly:

Question 4.

Yourself AND the person you are sponsoring on this form...... that would be "2" myself, and my wife

the next question:

Your spouse.... That would be 1

The answer one would think would be 3, but it does say "do not count any household member more than once. So i guess the question is.... Do i count my spouse under 1a or 1b?

thank you for that

For that section, it's 2...0..0...0...0...2 (if you don't live with/support anyone else right now). The form says not to count the same person twice, so 1b. would be 0 since you already counted her.

It has 1b there for people who live with their spouse currently (so that spouse counts toward the household) and they're sponsoring someone else other than the people listed below 1a.

Why is potomac taking so long to forward your petition? I remember you from the other thread, my stuff got transferred extremely fast.

I don't know, but it sure is frustrating having to wait! But I'm grateful for getting such a fast approval anyway, so I'm trying to be patient. I know I'm not the only one who has had to wait for a long time before their petition gets sent to NVC. Potomac seems to be pretty slow with forwarding to NVC for a lot of people.

Also, the A# listed on your NOA2 is your wife's A#. You, as a citizen, are not an alien. So you can write that A# for her in Part 2, line 5 of the I-864EZ.

I want to answer your other questions, too. If you have tax transcripts, you only have to send those, and only the most recent year is required. If you WANT to send your past three years of tax transcripts, you can do that, if you feel it's needed to prove your income stability. If you didn't have the transcripts, you would send copies of your whole income tax return + W-2s and/or 1099's (but those aren't needed if you're sending transcripts). The employer letter and paystubs is optional for you, if you want to show current/ongoing income. That's usually for people who just got a new job that finally qualifies them as a sponsor, but that wasn't reflected on their past income tax returns.

Note: You have to mail ALL of the pages of the I-864EZ, even if you don't fill anything out on the last few pages (translator and preparer's info pages).

Also, pay close attention to the instructions for which numbers to put in for Part 5, 6a/6b/6c. I got checklisted for that back in 2013.
