I will be moving back to the states April 20th or so. I did not work at all last year because I have been living in Spain, therefore, I have no W-2 forms to show. I will be filing my taxes (because I rented out my house while in Spain) but will not have proof from the IRS in time for the interview...? Not sure if this is really important because I can have a letter from my future employer stating how much I will make starting April 23rd and so on.... And not to mention I'll have 2005, and 2004 returns.

Any thoughts?

girlafraid,

W-2 forms are used to verify income from employment, so of course you don't have any W-2 forms nor will you be expected to have any.

Hi,

I had the same problem for 2004 and 2005. I contacted NVC and they told me to put N/A underneath the one I did have and write a letter explaining why I did not file. You can't request a transcript from the IRS because its for the most current year that they are working on. You may want to contact NVC but that is what they informed me to do was to write the letter explaining why.

If you do not have W-2s, you do not have them. I haven't had any W-2s since year 2000.

Look into the automagic extension for USCs 'temporarily abroad'--you get an extra 2 months to file this year! :) I did not have my tax return ready at interview time and it was not an issue for me. I included explanation of why it wasn't there.

baldoako & Radu & Mari, the OP is not questioning whether or not to file income tax returns.
