Which Ontario Marriage Certificate

I just wanted to double-check with the experts on this forum. I'm going to try to expedite my marriage certificate with Service Ontario in order to file my I-130 as soon as possible.

There are two options on the Service Ontario webpage for the marriage certificate:

• file-size marriage certificate: $15
• certified marriage certificate: $22

I think I want the second one, the certified certificate. Can anyone confirm that this is the correct one to send with the I-130. The state department reciprocity webpage says I want the "long form" which is not mentioned with Service Ontario.

Yep, Looked there. Under Ontario it refers to the certificates as "large". The option is "file-sized" or "certified" on the Service Ontario website. Just trying to figure out which of these corresponds to "large"

Certified is what you want. It should have a seal on it indicating it to be a true copy of the original. I believe. I am confident. I would order both just to have them on-hand.

you actually want the short form...that is the real certificate...the long form is not what is required (the website is confusing and the price difference makes people think that the more expensive one is more comprehensive but it is not)

You're right. I ordered both, and boy is the website misleading!

The long form is basically your marriage license, signed by all your witnesses and photocopied onto an official paper that says it's a certified copy of a document with a raised seal. It looks nothing like what I would expect a marriage certificate to look like. The $15 form looks like exactly what I would imagine a marriage certificate would look like.

Just to be on the safe side, I sent copies of both with my I-130.

By the way, they were very good about expediting the registration. I sent a letter in requesting they expedite it with a copy of my expiring work permit. They registered it the next day and mailed it out the day after receipt. Of course, Canada Post takes a full week to send anything from Thunder Bay to Toronto. One other tip. I included a prepaid xpresspost envelope for them to send it back...they did not use it, and instead used normal mail....rather aggravating.
