Lets not forget, just last year there was a hysteria in the UK over antisemitism. A couple of ridiculous polls purported to find that nearly half of Britons held an antisemitic belief and that most British Jews feared for their future in the UK. Although these polls were dismissed by specialists, they triggered the usual media feeding frenzy, as the Telegraph, the Guardian and the Independent hyperventilated about this rampant new antisemitism. It was exposed as complete nonsense when, in April 2015, a reputable poll by Pew found that the level of antisemitism in the UK had remained stable, at an underwhelming seven percent.

This farce happened only last year. One would have imagined that its mongers would be hiding in shame, and that we would enjoy at least a brief respite from the theatrics. But lo and behold, in the blink of an eye, right in the wake of the Pew poll showing that antisemitism in the UK is marginal, the hysteria has started up all over again. The reality is, there is probably more prejudice in the UK against fat people than there is prejudice against Jews.

Ask yourself a simple, but serious, question. You go for a job interview. Which trait is most likely to work against you: if youre ugly, if youre fat, if youre short, or if youre Jewish? Its perhaps a sad commentary on our societys values, but the trait most likely to elicit a rejection letter is if youre ugly. Then fat; then short. The factor least likely to work against you is, if youre Jewish. On the contrary, arent Jews smart and ambitious? Pew found antisemitism levels at seven percent. Is that grounds for a national hysteria? A May 2015 YouGov poll found that 40 percent of UK adults dont like Muslims and nearly 60 percent dont like Roma. Imagine what its like to apply for a job if youre a Roma! So where is your order of moral priorities?

It's not only ignorance, it's pure anti semitism. The sate of Israel while imperfect, lives by democratic values, morality and justice and fights every day against terror organizations sworn to the murder of innocents, like ISIS.

Plenty of people care. The US ships armaments to Israel every day. If Israel is accused of killing civilians, the US refuses to condemn it and sends extra weapons to help them out.

The moral of the story. Don't criticize Israel, or you will be smeared as an anti-Semite.

The issue gained steam in February, when Alex Chalmers resigned last February as the vice-chair of the Oxford University Labour Club. According to Chalmers, Palestine solidarity activists had taken over his schools Labour chapter and made life unbearable for Jewish students. He rattled off a litany of incidents that constituted antisemitism in his view. Almost all of them related to Israel, from angry remarks about its government and supporters to chants in support of Hamas. Chief among Chalmers grievances was members of the Executive throwing around the term Zio a shorthand for Zionist that he viewed as the very embodiment of antisemitic rhetoric.

Chalmers provided no evidence to support his inflammatory allegations. And none was required for the outrage to make its way across the Atlantic. Within days of Chalmers resignation, his claims were repeated in the opinion section of the New York Times by Roger Cohen, a pro-Israel columnist who favors the permanent forced relocation of millions of Palestinians to countries outside their homeland. Rehashing Chalmers unsourced accusations, Cohen proclaimed that the Labour Party had become infected with an antisemitism of the Left under the watch of Corbyn.

Unmentioned in Cohens column were the ulterior sectarian motives Chalmers had deliberately concealed. As journalist Asa Winstanley revealed, Chalmers had been an intern at BICOM, the main arm of the UKs pro-Israel lobby, which recently published the following call to arms: Save your pitch fork for Corbyn. Chalmers online bio noting his position at BICOM was mysteriously deleted around the time he publicized his allegations about antisemitism at Oxford. When Winstanley contacted Chalmers about the internship, he set his Twitter account to private and went off the radar.
