We're planning to file for removal of conditions at the start of May (90 days before current GC expires).

We have the following in joint names:

- rental lease / rental insurance

- car ownership / auto loan / auto insurance

- health insurance

- credit card

- drivers' licenses at the same address

- utility bills in one or the other's names at the same address

- photos that show us both together, getting older and fatter over the course of our marriage, in the company of our families and friends

There are some things that are not in joint names for #reasons

- our bill paying account is in my name only - but the transcript shows payments in from both of us and payments out to utilities (my husband has some debts in collection - we are working on paying them off, but in the meantime, we don't want to have a joint account in case it gets garnished)

- my husband was advised that we should file taxes as "married filing separately" because of his student loans. I don't understand the rationale behind this, but that's what we did, so we don't have joint tax returns.

We don't have kids. But my husband had a vasectomy a few months ago, so we're planning on including that paperwork on the basis that that shows a committment to our relationship (to me, that was a HUGE committment, and I love him so much for being willing to do that for us!). I'm assuming that nothing is TMI when it comes to immigration...

Does that sound sufficient? Do we need to get notarized statements from friends or include things like Christmas cards or anniversary cards, or copies of emails from my dad to his son-in-law (which mainly consist of geeky programmer stuff and photos of koalas - my dad always said that he was happy with three daughters, but deep down, I think he always wanted a son. My husband emails my dad more often than I do, so I suspect he's filling that void...)?

Is there anything else we should include?

Thank you in advance for your advice!

You should consider including life insurance policy , 401k plan, and wills showing spouse as beneficiary. They are definitely looking for financial co-mingling at ROC.

Thank you! I work for the state, so no 401k, but can provide evidence that my husband is the beneficiary of my state pension and death benefits. Will add that to the list!

(We don't have life insurance - no kids, no mortgage = no need. We probably should look into the will thing but the assumption is that if one of us dies, the other inherits, because we're married, so that's the default. Right? Hmmm, will check that...)

I'd still include the taxes that say "married filing separately". It shows legally that you are married so that's a plus.

Do you have power of attorney, healthcare power of attorney, wills, etc? How about credit cards ending in the same number? AAA or store memberships?
