Which Address Do They Use?

Hi All,

It's been a while since I've posted here, but everyone has been super helpful in the past. I've seen a lot of questions regarding the I-751 and the AR-11 and I-865, but I had a quick question. I've searched, but couldn't find the exactly answer to my question here.

What address will the USCIS send our notice of action to when they get the I-751. My wife and I moved shortly after she got her conditional green card and we had no idea about the AR-11 and the I-865. We recently sent our packet containing all of our materials for the I-751 about 1 1/2 weeks ago. Will they send any notice of action notices to the old address we lived in when my wife got her conditional green card, or will they send it to the mailing address on the I-751 (along with the rest of the proof that we submitted)? When we found out about this today, we immediately changed the address online for the AR-11, and I'm sending out my I-865 today.

I just want to make sure I don't miss the notice of action as we're anxiously awaiting details regarding our petition.

Lastly, does USCIS send out electronic updates as well? We originally filled out the electronic update request form back when we were applying for a conditional green card, but I wanted to know if we had to have done that again to get e-mail updates?

Thank you all!

They should send it to the address on the I-751. But they have been known to send it to old addresses on record, even if an address was changed send previously.

You need to resend the electronic request form each time you file a new application. Once you get your case number, you can log into the USCIS site and request notifications in the future, but it will not help with knowing if the NOA1 has been sent yet.

Thank you! Was worried about that. I guess we'll just have to keep calling to see if we can get a case number over the phone or set up a meeting with USCIS. Just a little paranoid about missing any action or, more importantly, lack of action from USCIS. I want to make sure we get the notice before my wife's green card expires.

I'm always the same way when we send something off, so I certainly understand. I only had to do an address change once, while the K-1 for my wife was pending. I had bought a house and I was terribly worried the mail would go to my old address. I mailed in the address change form, and everything went as smooth as could be. I believe this is what happens with the majority of the people going through the process, but we mainly note when something goes wrong here, so it ups our worry factor. Good luck on her ROC application.

We moved into a new home after my husband immigrated and I completed the Ar-11 online for him. But I never completed or sent in the I-865 form for myself as the sponsorer. I will be submitting I-751 in a couple of weeks. Do you think I should still send them the i-865 form?

From everything I have been reading, it's best to just get it all done ASAP. I'd send that out as soon as you can.

The other question I had in all this. USCIS says to not contact them with inquires about your case status if you haven't heard from them until at least 30 days after your package is submitted. Is that always the case? Say our NOA was mailed to the wrong address, or say it was never mailed at all. 30-45 days is DANGEROUSLY close to when my wife's conditional expires. What recourse do we have in that case? Just thinking worst case scenario.
