haha! yeah he's single but he doesn't want to do it "that way". I know a few of his female co-workers have offered it to him. I guess he's just not the type.

Hahahha! I am glad that was funny and not offensive.

No, it should be of course not that way. Being there for so long he may be wanted to settle for good. But if he is not dating anyone and was not on the route of getting married, never mind that option.

Well petitioning him on F4 category (Brother to Brother) will take yearsssss as mentioned by other VJrs. As of May 2016 Visa Bulletin F4 category they are processing now or at current status is January 1993 for Philippines. If you file now that is approximately 20++ year waiting time.

I hope his EB2 will be successful. Good luck!

I've read that while I was processesing my own naturalization that a person can apply for citizenship after he completes 40 quarters of paying taxes (that's 10 years right?) at least I think that's what it said.

hi

your getting confused with the affidavit of support, a person has to be a GC for several years to qualify for citizenship. by family petition or labor petition, it is 5 years of being a GC holder, if it through a spouse of a USC, it can be 3 years

Completely wrong. Has nothing to do with it and the previous question came from the myth that after certain time on a work visa you are eligible for something. Work visas are temporary by nature, only permanent residence of certain length leads to citizenship.

That's completely wrong. Your brother needs a green card for 5 years to apply for citizenship. It doesn't matter if he works here for a hundred year with 400 quarters of paying taxes, he still would not qualify for citizenship with a work visa.

It will take you 24 years to get him a green card.

There is no path for citizenship with a work visa.

Is he single? He should look at the route of getting married (to a USC or LPR) and adjust from that. But of course if he has a wife back home in PH this is not a viable option.

I don't mean this as an attack on your post specifically, just an observation on similar posts I've seen lots of times.

When did marriage stop being about being with someone you love and start being just about getting a green card?

We don't even know if the person involved is even dating anyone but on threads like this you almost always have someone suggesting they go look for someone to marry to get their GC.

I can't see a problem with asking if the immigrant is seeing anyone and if they would like to be together permanently then marriage would be the best option.

But just "Find a USC to marry" seems a bit cold to me and bordering on fraud.

Just my personal opinion.

He is single and been here 8 years and is looking for a quick cheaper option, so if he was in a relationship might want to push it forward.

Having said that EB2 is a nice way as well, but usually the Employer pays. And that seems a lot.

Totally not implying to get married just for GC thus my second comment: Being there for so long he may be wanted to settle for good. But if he is not dating anyone and was not on the route of getting married, never mind that option.

And as Boiler mentioned, "push it forward" if he is dating anyone. Totally not impossible for being in the US for the past 8 years.

My line of thinking when I posted that was different from your "Find a USC to marry" seems a bit cold to me and bordering on fraud.

I have often seen the response "find a USC to marry" when someone asks about moving to the USA. It may just be me but I often see this as a "tongue in cheek" reply to demonstrate that unless you are married to a citizen it's going to be very tough or involve a very long wait to achieve the "dream". And to dispel the myth that you can just apply for a job in the USA and off you go.

I have a colleague who has an obsession with Orlando. I know, I know, I don't get it either. But after 24 holidays there he overheard someone mention that I am moving to the USA later this year/early next year. Boy was I hounded and questioned by him on how I had done that. He didn't know that my husband is a USC. He asked me which website he should go on to get all the info he needs to be able to move his family to his beloved Orlando and I jokingly said "start with match.com". He is already married and has children so that won't be happening but it was my way of letting him know that unless you have immediate family in the USA, it may just remain a dream and there is no magic way - not even in Disney world.

Like I said, I wasn't directing my comment at your post specifically but at similar posts in general. Apologies if it came across differently.

As JFH mentioned, I'm sure a lot of the comments are a bit tongue in cheek but I feel that most of them are serious suggestions to cheat the immigration system.

Sibling visa takes too long? Someone will usually come a long and suggest finding a USC to marry.

Someone asks what they can do after overstaying for years? Within the first page someone will suggest finding a USC spouse.

The marriage and being together should come first and the green card just the way to make it happen, not the other way around.

That would cut out a lot of many VJ forums, MENA, PI etc.
