Hi Everyone,

I moved to California back in January, and had to write the Driver Test and also do a Behind the Wheel test, which I passed everything.

They issued me a temporary DL and they are saying that they won't send me a proper DL because my I94 has an Admit until 04/20/2016 date on it. So because of this they won't make it an active DL.

Because of this the insurance company won't issue insurance for my vehicle to drive.

Is there any way to have this I94 date updated?

You can't "have your I-94 updated". Your K-1 status is indeed only for 90 days after entry. Even if you had applied for your driver's license a few weeks earlier, they would only give it until your I-94 admit-until date, and not any longer than that. You will not have any accepted legal presence document to qualify for a regular driver's license again until you get your EAD or green card.

It is also possible to get an AB60 driver's license which doesn't require a legal presence document. I don't know how much hassle it would be to apply for that now and then switch back to a regular license when you get your green card.

But I went into the DMV and the temp DL that I had was about to expire soon they reissued me a new one with an expiration date in July now.

But the insurance company says its not valid.

We didn't get CA licenses for a few months after we moved, but we got insured no problem using our home country licenses (then updated the details when we got CA licenses). Have you tried this route?

change insurance companies. Some are a lot harder on immigrants than others.

But the insurance company doesn't know me as an immigrant. They are saying my DL is not Active according to the the DMV here in Cali. But the DMV when I go in says its valid but they just are sending out a Plastic Card because they are waiting on more info.

sure they do, because they are not checking the temporary license list used for immigrants.

EAD is enough. I already gave a link to what documents are accepted.

And yet "Canadian Passport/Birth Certificate" is on that list and it has been provided.... Plus "Valid foreign passport with a valid Record of Arrival/Departure (form I-94)" is on the list....

Yet these are not good enough.

Well, they are good enough, but only for a driver's license with validity up to the expiration of your status, which is useless in your case.

Repeat question...have you tried insuring using your Canadian license ?
