Hey, everyone!

My husband and I got married last week in West Hartford, Connecticut, and now we're waiting for our marriage certificate so I can apply for AOS.

The guide VisaJourney provides is very clear when it says "a certified copy of the marriage certificate", but the West Hartford Townhall wants to send us a certified copy of the marriage LICENSE, claiming they're both the same thing.

Is is true? Anyone going/went through similar situation? I'm too scared of getting an RFE for submitting the wrong document.

Thank you in advance!

i was under the impression that is too separate things. i just sent out my AOS and i checked my papers to make sure and it states marriage certificate at the top.. we are from new york and before we married we had to apply for a marriage license. I would wait and see what you actually receive.

Hi, kikibooboo! We also got married in Connecticut and in CT they are in fact the same thing, as in, the one form is both the marriage license and certificate of marriage after the officiant/JP who performed your ceremony fills out the bottom part and sends it back to the town clerk.

Here's the top of my CT marriage license/certificate clearly stating it's both:
