Hi everyone,

I'm planning to travel to Canada soon. I currently hold a green card that is expired. I was told at my most recent biometrics appointment (applying to remove conditions) that the paperwork I got extends my green card date until my application is approved and I get my 10 year green card. I remember the officer saying it was valid in conjunction with my expired green card for travel.

I bought my tickets under my maiden name to match my Canadian passport.

I am worried about getting back into the u.s. with an expired green card. Has anyone beven through this?

The I797C notice you should've gotten should say that your alien card has been extended with one year. Make sure to bring this notice along with your expired green card.

I'm assuming your GC is in your married name? If so, bring a copy of your marriage certificate to evidence the discrepancy between your GC and passport.

Sometime after the trip you should also probably get the name changed in your Canadian passport.

Consider bringing your valid passport, your expired GC, your ROC receipt/extension letter, a copy of your marriage license.

Be sure to make copies of your ROC receipt/extension letter, but bring your original for presentation to border officials.

Keep in mind that your extension letter date is not from the date of your GC but the date your I-751 ROC was received.
