It is not better or worse, just different.

What an obnoxious bunch of replies! The original poster requested if anyone had information on the different avenues that might be open to him to emigrate... that's all.. There was no request of whether it was a good idea or not or a list of pros and cons.

He's already relayed the fact they are an educated couple so don't you think they might just have feasibly looked into all aspects of moving to another country?

Georgia and Penguin obviously get the idea and have provided some thoughts, unfortunately I just don't have an answer for you Wes even though I'm sure you are more than willing to contribute to the society in the US, it just may be too difficult. Maybe a free consultation with an immigration professional might be in order, the first appointment shouldn't cost you I would think. That way you know what possible doors are open to you.

Oh and say hi to "uncle Bob" for me ;-)

Smacks of "well I can move to the US but you can't"

Either assist with a query or don't post such condescending drivel!

Not sure you actually read the thread, she is a qualified teacher and whilst it is not impossible, moving as a teacher is very difficult, most of the potential Employers are out of bounds.

Obviously they had not looked into this to any extent or would not have posted here.

There are UK Schools in the US (having lived in New York for a few years, I know for a fact that international schools are always looking for international teachers and are more than willing to sponsor) that might be willing to sponsor your wife for a work visa (I believe she has the post secondary education and the work experience for the H-1B and then you could possibly immigrate with a green card after you started your life in the US)

Or you could try to open your own company for disabled students (trust me it pays WELL, my husband does it) and if you are willing to invest at least $500,000 and create jobs you would be eligible for an EB-5

https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/green-card-through-job/green-card-through-investment

Or to be honest, I lived in Canada for a while and I know they do this there I'm not sure about the US: you start your own company, hire people, get it started and your own company sponsors you for an H-1B... this procedure might be the longest though

Good luck, I know how it feels to have the American Dream at heart and I wish you guys a lot of success!

Well the part about feasibility was actually around what it might be like to live here... The quality of life discussion that some posts decided the approach needed was "the grass always looks greener"

If we all had completed our own research sites like this wouldn't exist as we would all know it all wouldn't we. The point of the discussion boards is to ask questions you don't know the answers to that might be replied to quickly. Rather than a lecture on why would you move from your status quo. There was nothing in the original post that could lead you to garner that he was making a mistake even contemplating a move...

Anyway I just threw my tuppence in for the mere fact I thought some of the replies were not needed. I was half expecting people to wave their GC's in his face as it sure looked that way when reading the posts.

I have personally met far more people who moved here through work than any other means.

None were teachers.

All States have different requirements for Teachers, none of them would be compatible with UK qualifications.

A British School may be an option, but not many of those and say we are looking at a H1b then either it needs to be a non profit or a long wait and get lucky in the lottery.

And he would not be work authorised.

Investment Visa, well I must admit I ruled that out, did not get the impression that was an option.

Ok so I wake up to loads of replies, where so I start.

Hawaii, as you say i'd still need to go through the same process so i'll get back to you, but sounds great :)

Australia, definitely a beautiful country and a contender, but spiders! Hell no! I have many friend that have gone there and looks fantastic.

Canada, my uncle lives there (Not Bob though) and yes another beautiful country, but its not America.

Its not something we have taken lightly and my wife had been there many many times and for long periods so its not a case of we've been on holiday and want to move, we've thought about it.

Quality of life to us doesn't mean bigger, better. Obviously I didn't think i needed to list every reason for the move, however, as a guy that has suffered with anxiety for many many years, with that anxiety being verbally non existent when I'm over there i'd say a persons mental health is far more important than money or possessions. I did come on here to get the views of like minded people, those that have been through the same experience or could offer helpful advice. My reasons are my reason so please don't judge.

Educated or not, you can do all the research the world but at the end of the day people that have gone through the same could offer you that one piece of advice that could change your life, that one thing you never thought of or that one loop hole or contact that could help.

Going onto the immigration site and looking at the lists of visas is overwhelming and where do you start? On a forum usually and google. I trust people more than someone that says they can help for $100 a minute to rinse you of your money. It may well come to that but no before i've explored other avenues. Thank you so much for all of the advice, may it continue. Thank you to those offering supports and gpiper, your comments were much appreciated and true. :)

There are companies/agencies out there that you can join as a UK qualified teacher and they can sponsor your move (I believe its a 3 year visa). Again not totally sure of the details but its worth looking into i guess. My wife would just need to take a course/exams to gain a US certification, it can't be that different!

Im sure I've forgotten some of what i wanted say ha ha but that'll do for now. Thanks.

Kind regards
