Hello I have a question if anyone here can help would be greatly appreciated...Im trying to get my parents here with form i-130 but then they need a marriage certificate for my father which back in the days when my parents got married they lived in villages in the rural country and had been married through culture ceremony only. So they never had or knew about official marriage certificates or registering for marriage through the government...We recently went and registered and produced them a marriage certificate from the government but it only indicates that they are legally married on the date of the day we went and register for the certificate and that's not legitimate enough for this purpose. If anybody have any advice it would be a great help Thanks in advance for the help...

My best bet is to have an attorney or someone like that attach a letter explaining what you just said and attach to the marriage certificate. I know that type of marriage because I'm from Africa and we mostly do traditional marriage which most people don't sign afterwards. Good luck.

Thanks precious one..so should I even send in their recent marriage certificate we registered for since on it only states they were legally married on the date of march 23 2016? Or should we just send in proof and affidavit?

yeah send the marriage certificate even if its late registered. now they will find out that you were illegitimate because the date of marriage. So, send proofs even they were not yet married by the time were born. Pictures, affidavits, letters from other people close to your family. And make sure your parents name is on your birth certificate.

Sorry i am a bit confused because am i considered illegitimate? but how can that be if my parents were married by culture traditions and they were married at the time of my birth maybe not by legal system but by tradition ceremony already?
