We have been in Administrative Processing since January.



We just sent in a new I-864 . Our original form did not satisfy because we did not have funds in a U.S. account, they were all in Canadian accounts/investments. We did not want to involve a joint sponsor so we had to cash in some of our investments from Canada, which takes time, and transfer them to my US checking account since we are using assets only (no US income) since I am living in Canada and my income will not continue in the US.. We are over the poverty line calculation for the 3 years ($20,075x3) by several thousand dollars. We also included a letter signed by a bank officer verifying that I have the funds in a U.S. checking account.



We are hoping this will satisfy Montreal and we will get the approval in about 4-6 weeks. This has been going on long enough and we would like to get our life started in the US.

Yeah, when we had an issue with support, the number he gave us was something like $62,000. Fear not, marciasean!

We have been at a status of Administrative Processing because they needed more documents which they received on April 26th.

Today our status changed to READY.

Should we get our hopes up that they will request the passport (didn't send due to travel plans) so the Visa can get Issued?

So in the end were they happy with assets in your US account? I'm in a similar boat, where I will be starting a new job in the US. Since they won't count my Canadian salary, I'm hoping to use US assets (primarily in IRA's) to meet the minimum. I'd read that sometimes Montreal can demand a joint sponsor...I'm hoping that's not the case.

For what it's worth, they wouldn't count my USC husband's IRA (which exceeds the minimum by a long shot) for this purpose as it's not liquid enough for their tastes. But you may get a different guy or other aspects of your case may make a difference. What I was told was that it had to be basically cash in a checking account, versus something that could take time to access, the value of which could fluctuate due to market variables etc.

Well that's more than a bit annoying. Who keeps 60K in a checking account? One does have to pay a penalty on early withdrawals, but it's still a liquid asset. It's not like a house that has to be sold first.

I feel your pain. We ended up using a joint sponsor because of this.

Your mileage may vary, however.
