In line for interview

Hello,

After the biometric appointment, the next step is to receive an email that says you are inline for an interview. Is there a specific form to submit to be notified by email or do they pull the email address from the N400 application? Is the email followed by a letter in the mail? If I want text alerts, is there a form for that?

What is the normal wait from the inline notification until you have the interview date?

Thank you

To get text or email notifications you need to go to the USCIS website and use your case number (from the receipt) to set up an online account. You then need to turn on notifications for your application.

After biometrics, most early filers are placed inline exactly 1 month before their green card anniversary.

Most of those who don't file early, are placed inline within a week or two of biometrics.

If your background check is prolonged, it could take months to be placed inline.

After you are placed inline, you could be scheduled for an interview almost immediately or after several months.

Some people wait 4 months to be placed inline then get an interview scheduled a week later while others are placed inline right after biometrics and then wait 5 months for an interview.

Check the monthly filer threads in the progress sub-forum (scroll to the bottom of the citizenship forum) to look up timelines of people who live in your city. That'll be the best estimate of how long it'll take for you.

I guess they want to ensure the applicant reaches the 5th anniversary (3rd for marriage based) of their GCs by the time they have their interview.

precisely, and i also think early filers get their "Scheduled for Interview status" almost the same day as "In line Status" 30 days before their anniversary. Happened to a few posters here.

For some applicants it's the same day or within a few days. But this is something that depends on where you live. In some cities with backlogs, it's several months. Houston is usually one city with a long wait between inline and interview, but there are always exceptions.
