How old is the dog? If he's an older dog, it might bet better to leave the little guy with someone in Mexico who will love him and take care of him.

I had to leave my cats when I moved countries, and it just about killed me to do it, but they were old and I decided the stress of a flight would be really hard on them; they lived just fine with my brother for another 3 years.

Thank you. I cried, a lot. Our pets are like our family, aren't they? It was really hard, but best for them, I think.

I recently saw an ad on a buy, sell, trade site for a 16.5 year old dog that a family is giving for foster...not adoption FOSTER until he lives out his last day. They were moving to Mexico due to a failed waiver. They are offering all medical costs and food until he dies. Now that is dedicated!

Why are you still dealing with Aeromexico? Plenty of airlines and options. Move on to someone that cares.

Because I already have a purchased plane ticket with them. And flying out of the airport we are flying out of(Ciudad Obregon) are incredibly limited options. They are nearly the only airline that flies out of here and pretty much everything goes through Mexico City from here.

He's only 2 years old. So he's completely capable of traveling safely. The reason they are restricted breeds from being checked or in cargo is because they don't pressurize those compartments so their breathing problem creates a high risk for death. But being in a pressurized cabin like the rest of us doesn't create any problems for them. What it really comes down to is airline employees not understanding the actual rules because they just see "restricted breed" and don't see that it pertains to being checked or cargo and interpret it as completely restricted. Thanks everyone for the reference articles. What I've basically concluded is we are just going to have to have a contingency plan in case the Aeromexico employee at checkin at the airport absolutely refuses to let him on board. It's going to pretty much be rolling the dice, it looks like.

No, they do pressurize the cargo hold for pets. These dogs are not allowed to fly in the cargo hold and sometimes not in cabin, especially not during hot summer months, because they can't regulate their body temperature properly.

Brian, you might also perform a Web search for "pug" societies, to see if anyone has any insights or workarounds that no one here has mentioned yet.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Isn't the fact that an airline doesn't want more dogs to die a sign that they care?

The problem with snub nosed breeds is they do not regulate their body temperature well. This is a problem when they are out on the tarmac waiting to be loaded or in the cargo hold. This is not an issue in the cabin where temperatures are controlled for the comfort of the passengers. That is why all airlines not restrict these breeds from being shipped as cargo. This is not a caring airline, its an airline with people who don't know why the rules are in place and are too lazy to read the rules and see these breeds are allowed in the cabin.

Not all airlines allow them in the cabin. Some don't allow them during hot summer months. And they also have a weight limit on the dogs that go in the cabin.

I would hope that a pug is not so overweight that it would reach the weight limit of dogs in the cabin...

I just know the airlines I've looked into, I'd have to see an airline that doesn't allow pets inside the cabin. Although the size restraint is definitely a limitation, they need to be in an airline approved carried that fits under the seat in front of you. The heat issue and summer has always been related to the dogs in cargo or checked baggage because they get left in none environmental controlled areas. The airline the OP is using apparent does allow them in the cabin per their web site, but the customer service agents don't know that. The fact of the matter is what ever the check in agent decides is what is going to happen. I've dealt with similar issues before, where an airline I had flown with many times, checking live fish as baggage, refused to let me check the live fish I was bringing with. I even had a copy of their own rules on the matter saying specifically it was allowed, but the agent still refused. This is the reality when dealing with airlines, it doesn't matter what their published rules are, if some numb nut decides differently, you're stuck with what they decide.

LOL, reminds me of the numb nuts at DMV and SS office.

OP, I would look into a professional pet service from this web site, many different companies are available but it is expensive.

http://www.ipata.org/

These people know what they are doing and deal with these kind of situations every day.

They know exactly what kind of airline has rules pertaining to different pets.

I inquired about them for my own pets but the price was too steep.

I finally found a friend of a friend whom I payed $1400 to hand deliver my 2 puppies

(in cabin under the seat) with 2 connections, not really relevant because they aren't a restricted breed, but check out the

link and go from there.
