in my mind, that this resulted from a chase that probably wasn't necessary. the general public only gets upset when innocent people die as result of police chases.

I don't think that it is productive to pretend that the false premise of the OP, cops don't care enough to rescue three teenage girls when IN FACT there is video evidence readily available that IN FACT some of the police officers DID try to rescue the teenage girls, just so we can have a good cop bashing session.

You got suckered in by a false narrative in the OP bolstered by a compelling snippet of video supporting the false narrative that the police lied and never attempted to rescue the felonious car theives. It really is that simple.

I have no horse in this race other than the fact that I live pinellas county. BUT...

On one side, each dash cam is set by the individual officer. There's no way of proving that that cam footage was taken on that particular time.

On the other side, the officers are not permitted to do a dive rescue without a diving team and proper tethering, who knows how long that takes to get.

On topic,

It appears the cops didn't do anything to get the girls out of the car. But they said they did. If they lied about it, there should be repercussions. If they did indeed try to save the girls, it is what it is. But with the reports coming out of Chicago, Ferguson, and the other cases of police misconduct, it's strange to see so many folks dismiss it like it doesn't exist.
