Later Friday, Gualtieri posted a different dashcam video from a second cruiser on the department's Facebook page showing two officers walking by with clothes in hand. Gualtieri said that deputies waded into the water and tried to save the girls and that the video proves it.

"Unfortunately, there's a false narrative that's being spread by people on social media," he said. "We're unfortunately in a society today that if it's not on video, then it didn't happen."

On one of many videos reviewed by The Associated Press on Friday, a camera captures a police cruiser driving to the pond, behind several other police cars. It parks, and then eight minutes later, a deputy in a black shirt walks in front of the camera, holding clothing in his hand. Seconds later, another deputy, in a tank top and holding a uniform, walks in front of the cruiser.

Officials say those two deputies attempted to enter the water but retreated due to safety concerns.

"The vehicle began listing forward, at which point, I took off my duty belt and attempted to swim out to the vehicle," wrote Deputy Logan Tromer, who is also on the Sheriff's Office dive team but who happened to be working the night shift. "I made it approximately 10-15 yards out; however, at this point the vehicle was facing front bumper down and was completely submerged within seconds. Due to the unknown depth, thick vegetation and officer safety concerns, I had no choice but to exit the water and suspend my rescue efforts."

This thread is just an example of ghetto trash and the people who identify with, tolerate, support, and defend them by blaming anyone but them for their actions and the consequences of their actions.

It appears the cops didn't do anything to get the girls out of the car. But they said they did. If they lied about it, there should be repercussions. If they did indeed try to save the girls, it is what it is. But with the reports coming out of Chicago, Ferguson, and the other cases of police misconduct, it's strange to see so many folks dismiss it like it doesn't exist.

Ferguson was not police misconduct. It was a criminal that tried to kill a police office, got shot in the process and of couple of other criminals lied about it. Then 100s more criminals looted and burned

Somebody lied but a few seconds of video clip in an article designed to do, what they always do means nothing.

You do remember hands up don't shot , which was started by someone who already had a conviction for lying to police. It did not stop that lie from being the war cry of the poverty pimps and thier legions in the media

Should the police have lied? No. They lied about how fast the car was going (said it was about 30 mph but was clocked at 90mph. I fact, pinellas county law (I live here) says that they may not pursue a stolen car unless it's engaging In dangerous driving. We don't know that last part, so it may have been an illegal chase to begin with.

However, that said the parents saying the girls weren't criminals, they had a combined 1733 felonies since 2014.

in my mind, that this resulted from a chase that probably wasn't necessary. the general public only gets upset when innocent people die as result of police chases.

Car theft is a huge problem in Pinellas County especially among young people. This is a huge opportunity for the sheriff and I think that he sees that.
