My husband would LOVE to have a metal roof to listen to rain.

But i don't think they're a good idea here.

Metal roofs are terrible for cold climates. But excellent for hot climates.

Grrr....

Popped into a restaurant for lunch, in heavy disguise-haven't been there fir two years. What do you know, the waiter who guided me to the table recognised me, and said long time no see....

What's the point of a baseball cap and sunglasses!

And why, may I arsk, do you have to eat in disguise?

Have you been banned from that restaurant?

"ah no sushi for you! for one year!"

No they are great for up there too.

They're terrible insulators.

It's an excellent disguise-my hair is longer than two years ago for starters. Tell you, the men here have great memories. The other night I went to a bar for the third time in two months, and the staff were yelling out "welcome back" etc .

At a party last week, some guy i have never met, said he saw me three months ago crossing the road-and he even described what I was wearing at the time!!!! What the????

1- Stalkers!

2- Stalker!

I think stalking is illegal in some states :)

Didn't miss the point, just trying to bring in some levity.

Going get drunk with friends...heading out of Japan on Sunday , for a break. Learn to laugh, steve.

1- where are you going?

2- Learn to laugh.....lady you have no idea how my sense of humor carried me through my miserable life.....

Well it's terrible as it didn't work so couldn't have been that great of a disguise :P

Nope they are awesome. I know plenty of ppl who have them, installed right and have the proper insulation in your attic solves that issue.

Not too many people use metal roofs here. Copper, yes....metal, no.

They do lose heat anyway you look at them. But they're great at keeping a house cool.

The fluctuation in temperatures covers a big span in the northern US, so if you fasten the metal to wood, the different expansion and contraction ratios of the 2 materials will eventually wear the fasteners loose. For this same reason, vinyl siding is installed loosely.

The proper way to do it up north is to have a "Free floating" roof with a metal skeleton.

It's not popular here in NY. Or anywhere nearby.

you're using it wrong, you're not supposed to insert the scanner, it stays on the outside.

No way are metal roofs cool, they're big friggen solar collectors heating up homes. I keep trying to think how I'll get away from a metal roof when I build in the Philippines. But then you hardly see any vents in the rafter areas there too. The situation makes for oven sitting on top of a house there.
