There are not separate B refusal rates posted for Wales, seems about 1 in 5 compared to 1 in 3 despite Nigeria having a much higher GDP.

So not a massive difference.

, may be unaware that as a CO, we live and work in the same country as the applicants....we are exposed to the same fetid air, slosh through the filth on the way to work,

and since you seem to be on some sort of high horse,

Parts of Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, or Baltimore exhibit the same fetid air and slosh through the filth.

You also may wish to rearrange your view from that high horse of yours.

Hmmm.. the disgruntlement that comes across from a number of your posts??????????

time for a reality check: do you really believe that the US cities you mentioned are in the same condition as Lagos or Abuja? Have YOU lived and/or worked in either of those two cities?

Do thousands of people living in LA or Baltimore or NY defecate in the streets? Are there dead animals rotting on the streets of those cities you mentioned? Would drinking tap water in any of those American cities kill you overnight? Or leave with you with parasites that might carve out your insides over a few months? If you truly believe that, you should relocate to Greenland....or maybe Abuja....

But first, go see if you could pass all of the incredibly challenging tests to become a CO....then go serve in one or two cesspools, then we can talk about reality. Sheesh.

Lovely thread in General Immigration about the reality of Nigeria.

What sort of client?

Based on the definition of "client" given by the poster, I guess all of us here on VJ have "clients" because we give immigration advice.

Having lived in Baltimore for the majority of my life, I think I'm qualified to say that B'more is an extremely urban jungle of crumbled buildings, rats, drugs, smog, gang violence, homelessness, and old rusted steel mills that are nothing but empty husk shells - peppered with areas of great beauty.... but there is one thing I can say, it is certainly not anything remotely like a third-world country. Pretty sure NY and Chicago residents could report the same thing.

Never been to Lagos but had a friend who did work assignments there.

Agree nothing like the US.

I just would like to mention something (even that people here looooooove be mean to me hahahaha)

On those third world countries there are still a lot of skilled people. Not just skilled, but honest, trustful, hardworking and with good intentions.

The immigration process is not fair for anyone, not fair for the USC and the family he/she choose to share his/her life.

A lot of people pay for something that don´t belong to them during immigration.

Do you guys think that I like to see those bad situations and fraud committed by this people from my country or not?

Ughhhhhhh I hate to see it because I know that it touch me... Indirectly but touch me...

I just really really really hope that one day I´ll be able to reunite my family. This is my bigger desire.

And I hope you all guys can realize this dream too.

I´m sorry for the bad english... Biggest desire... not bigger...

I´LL START TO LIVE BACK AGAIN WHEN I´LL BE ON MY HUBBY´S ARMS, FOREVER AND EVER. UNTIL THERE, I DON´T LIVE. I SURVIVE. (L)

I've seen a lot of crazy things, but I've never seen thousands of persons defecating in a Baltimore street. The first thing we grab during a storm is the TP and the first thing looters grab during a riot is the TP. That would be talked about for sure. Got a street name in particular this is a regularly occurring tradition on?

Yes, it's clear your cities have better sanitation infrastructure than ours. But what does that have to do with the visa application in front of you? Shouldn't you adjudicate on the basis of the applicant's qualification for the visa, not dismiss it because you don't like the city you've been posted to? And why did you work in the Foreign Service in the first place?

I've lived in both Nigerian cities for years, but I've never seen thousands of people defecating on any street. This is the fallacy of the hateful mind: it takes a few negative experiences and magnifies it to the ridiculous.

afrocraft, having never served as a CO, may be unaware that as a CO, we live and work in the same country as the applicants....we are exposed to the same fetid air, slosh through the filth on the way to work, are fully aware of the country's current economic conditions and do validation studies to see what percentage of the visa holders are obeying the terms of that privilege...and when the percentage of abusers is sky high, the issuance rates should be sky low....ask yourself why someone living in a hovel 50 miles outside of Abuja or Lagos, making $184 a month doing who knows what, lacking proper medical care, clean water, infrastructure, would be chomping at the bit to get on a plane from the US and zoom back to Nigeria?
Ask yourself why Nigeria (and many other similar countries) are not going to be considered, ever, to join the VWP? Because the abuse rate of visas is off the charts...and the COs did not force anyone to overstay....that decision was made by the visa holder...so, the more who abuse said privilege, the harder it will become for others to get a visa and do the same....the intensity of scrutiny of the applicants will increase, and correctly so....we, as COs, do not and are not supposed to:
(a) feel sorry for the applicants
(b) hand them a B2 visa as some sort of 'test run' to see if they will comply with our laws and rules
© give them a B2 visa so they can go search for a better life in the US....
and since you seem to be on some sort of high horse, why aren't YOU living in Nigeria instead of the US of A, if Nigeria is so wonderful?????

Eh, actually I still live in Nigeria. I fell in love with, and married, an American citizen, and we're still negotiating where we'll reside long-term. My preference is Nigeria, where my potential for impact and income are meaningfully higher, but we'll see....

The OP's question was not why the B visa application was rejected; it was why the visa was rejected in a seemingly casual manner. No applicant has a right to a visa, and COs must weigh which candidates are likely to abuse their visas (deny) and which which are not (consider approving). But that's an individual determination, not one that should be made with a broad brush because your commute was ruined by some hobo defecating on the streets and you couldn't give a #### about the applicant in front of you.

Likewise, with Baltimore and Nigeria.. I am doubtful that thousands of persons defecate on a city road in either location. But hey, I await someone from either location to prove it to me.
