Dear friends,

I wanted to let you know about a new petition I created on We the People, a new feature on WhiteHouse.gov, and ask for your support. Will you add your name to mine? If this petition gets 99,999 signatures by May 21, 2016, the White House will review it and respond!

We the People allows anyone to create and sign petitions asking the Obama Administration to take action on a range of issues. If a petition gets enough support, the Obama Administration will issue an official response.

You can view and sign the petition here:

http://wh.gov/iAenX

Here's some more information about this petition:

Visa laws must be changed to allow for family unity and tourism in the U. S

Current U. S immigration laws states that for a person to qualify for a visit visa to the U. S such a person must have strong ties that will compel them to return back to their home country after the duration of their stay. Such a requirement is a little bit hard to meet for majority of the visa applicants and in return they are refused visas. Also, with the immigrant visa applicants, they are made to undertake medicals, get police clearances all without any assurance of being issued with a visa. Immigrant visa applicants pay huge sums of money to undertake these medicals and police clearances and in the long run can't be promised if the visa will be issued or not. Also, consular officers should not be given the sole power of issuing U. S visas. Most at times that power is abused.

Sorry I don't agree with your petition.

Also you are not actually spelling out HOW you want to change the policy. Everybody who applies for a tourist visa should be granted one? No police clearance/medical for IV applicants?

I agree that your petition is unrealistic.

Public safety is the NUMBER ONE priority in screening visa applicants; be it health related or criminal.

Processing the paperwork for visas is a service. And it is not a free service, so there will always be fees.

You stated, "Immigrant visa applicants pay huge sums of money to undertake these medicals and police clearances and in the long run can't be promised if the visa will be issued or not." If there was a guarantee that a visa would be approved based on payment then there would be all kinds of bribery.

Please take a moment to step back and really really look into what you are asking.

Kingjulian, I'd like to think you genuinely want to see some "good" news coming out of the US embassy in Accra. So I can understand your interest.

BUT dude, is your petition based on the review people have been sharing on VJ? First of all, how do you even know the evidence people claim they submitted are true? A check on your timeline shows you are yet to have your interview. Why don't you wait and go through the process and then go on with this petition from a personal experience.

Right now, it sounds like your petition is based on people's hearsay. Remember, what people share on VJ is just a tip of the iceberg.

About the content of the petition, it wasn't the best. Remember being issued a US visa is not a right. If you understand how big an issue immigration is in the US, you'd have perhaps considered a different approach.

That said, I understand your frustration... But remember, there's more to the stories we hear here than it is presented. Good luck though!

I completely understand the frustration, financial burden, and disappointment of being denied a visa....believe me. However, I do realize that these safeguards are put in place to ensure the safety of American citizens. Do I want people to show strong ties and prove a return home? Of course, this has been made a necessity because so many have abused this. If certain visas from certain countries have become difficult to get its because previous visa recipients have abused that privilege.

Now, if you want to talk about processing times, misinformation, unconformity, and one hand not knowing what the hand is doing...then I'll take a look at that petition!

OP, you're standing up and trying to make a change. I applaud that...not many do these days. Just has to be in the right context.

Good Luck!

Absolute nonsense petition which defies common sense.

I think you'd get a lot more support for a petition asking to remove the ability to AOS from visitors - tourist visas, VWP, etc. By removing that incentive, they could relax the burden of proof potential VISITORS need to meet.
