Hello,

I am putting together the K1 packet for my fiance and I and I am wondering if copies of my (I'm the US citizen) birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce decree need to be certified copies or can they be copies of certified copies? Also, the state I got divorced in does not provide divorce certificates, so would the divorce decree I received in the mail be enough? I'm hoping we have enough evidence of having met. I just got back from a week-long visit to him in the UK. It was our first meeting, and we are hoping it was enough to prove that we have met. I have my boarding pass, receipt from the cottage we rented, my passport stamp (though you can't read the date AT ALL), receipts from dinner and castle tours. He will be here in the states at the end of June, so if they need more evidence they will need to wait for that (though I'm hoping what we have right now is enough!). This process is so NERVE-WRACKING!

Marriage certificate?

For our K1 I sent a certified divorce decree. I provided the same things for proof of meeting. You should be fine.

Marriage certificate because my last name is different than that on my birth certificate. I need to provide proof of name change. I did not change my name back to my maiden name after my divorce, so I need to provide the marriage certificate for my first marriage...I think so anyway. That's what I read somewhere.

Copies are fine. Remember to get the long form of your BC (with parents) and copy front and back (even if it doesn't say anything on the back).

You have more than enough evidence for the London embassy.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.
