Dual Citizenship

Hi! Just wondering exactly how the whole dual citizenship thing works. I am the USC and my husband will be eligible to apply for US citizenship in July. He can keep his UK citizenship without having to do anything additional correct? We now have a son and I understand that our son is automatically eligible for dual citizenship. All we have to do is apply for his passports. Ideally, I would like to have UK citizenship at some point so we are all dual citizens, just in case. Is anyone else in a similar situation and what was your experience? Thank you!

He can apply 90 days before the 3rd anniversary of his GC.

Unless you want to go through this process again best to get his USC sorted before you move to the UK.

My daughter is a duel citizen. I read that if my fiance and I have any kids I just have to apply for a British passport for them as they are British by descendant. But my daughter was born in the UK. Defiantly apply for US citizenship before trying to get anything from the UK. They are making it very hard now for non-EU spouses to move to the UK.

Just like your husband didn't get US citizenship automatically when he married you, neither do you get UK ctizenship.

You would have to follow a whole UK set of procedures in steps, and live there a number of years to get UK citizenship.

Following this thread...we've talked about me becoming a UK citizen years down the road (gotta get through the US stuff first) and the income requirements are quite prohibitive. Either your husband will have to move back and get a job that meets the income minimum and work there for 6 months, then can he apply for you as a beneficiary; or you would need to have over 60k GBP in savings to apply without the employment requirement.
