Just read somewhere that if you stated a date expected to leave then the embassy sometimes tend to work with that date.

Last thing to ask is - we are planning our wedding for November however I plan to be over quite sometime before Nov... Should we have a legal marriage and post everything off for working permits etc and AOS then have our proper wedding in November? this way we can get the ball rolling on me finding a job etc.

Thanks again.

That is correct for London. Your readiness form asks your planned date of marriage. Do not put November or they will push back your interview in favor of those who wish to marry sooner. The whole date thing is so they can try to accommodate people when possible. Just make up a date in July. I would say pick something about 8 weeks after your medical date. They can't work miracles and get you in in 2 weeks notice so make it reasonable.

Here are your instructions from London. Follow them once they receive your file at the embassy Each embassy does things differently so don't get confused by what people from other countries suggest you do. Your real instructions are here https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee-2/applying-for-the-visa/

Hey guys,

So yesterday we received our NOA2 (Wooooo!) and now we're wondering how long it'll roughly take for our NVC number then how long for an interview and medical? My local office is London and the nvc office is New York City (we believe). Does anyone have any rough timescales? We want to book flights soon so a rough time would be cool.

Secondly, I'm a store assistant manager and have an art degree. So I'm probably going to get back into the retail sector for a while... I've worked consistently for 6 years with barely any gaps. How long will it take from POE in the u.s until I could get a work permit? Do we need to be married first for this?

Thank you so much in advance!!

NVC is in Portsmouth New Hampshire and about a week or so after NOA2 you can call them and inquire about your case you must have your hard copy NOA2 with case number first though. Interviews depend on the country they can take anywhere from a couple weeks to a couple months. Medicals usually can only be booked once you have an interview date.

You should not books flights until you have your visa in hand any number of delays could happen on your case. Also you must be married to apply for a work and travel visa which has taken me and my husband three months. You cannot work until you have these documents get ready for a long boring ride.

Hold onto your hat its going to be a bumpy ride!!

but don't worry you'll get through it :luv:

It's more like 3+ weeks now for case number...

I've seen NVC taking 3 weeks and 2 days in a lot of cases, but for some people it is taking longer. 3-5 weeks is a guideline. Medical's are pretty easy to get and have lots of availability. From medical to interview you are looking at an average of 6 weeks at the moment. But there is so many things that can hold you up or slow you down. So I wouldn't book flights until you have the visa.

Also use the search tool here and you will get a better idea about what is going on with other filers....it's always good to put in efforts and look for information yourself....

Also good to get tailored information to specific cases from people... No harm in asking a question...

That's great thank you so much!!! Was so worried they'd be weirded out that we were technically having two weddings - oh well! that's awesome :-) good to know we have options!!

R

It'll be fine, in fact a lot of K-1 visa holders do it that way, get the marriage done quickly at the courthouse so that they can start the ball rolling with AOS, and then have the big wedding event with your family and friends later when you have time to plan it out.
