Hey, guys!

So, I made it to the USA on Sunday, got married to the love of my life on Monday and we are now looking into filling out the documents asap cause we wanna travel to Rio for the Olympics.

Anyways, my question is: I know I'm gonna have to wait 2 weeks to apply for SSN, but want to apply for AOS + AP + EAD now and, for now, my name is still my maiden name. I want to change it and use my husband's name, so when filling for the AOS+AP+EAD, which name should I use??

Thanks in advance =)

The new name :) And then change it now. It'll cost a lot of money to get it change on the GC when you have it.

Why didn't you change it when you got married?

hey! thank you =)

I haven't been given the opportunity to actually change my name yet. People told me I will change my name when I submit my SSN =)

Ah the infamous name change posts....lol

What is TWO Weeks?

My wife came here on a THU. We got married the following Monday, and changed her name. The officiant of my marriage gave us the signed original and submitted the copy to us.

We were able to goto the SSN office with that versus waiting for the official marriage certificate from the state....which didnt take too long either.

You do not have to wait 2 weeks to apply for SSN. Now that you can get the I-94 online you can easily print it out and go the very next day if you like. you can change your name there and that will make things easier :)

Good Luck and Congrats!

You do not need to wait 2 weeks to apply for the SSN. You can apply now.

Your married name is what you choose to use after your marriage. You will put your married name on all AOS forms.

Your name changes on the date you are married. Your marriage certificate is a legal name change document...even if only your maiden names show on it. So your name is not changed when you submit your SSN, it is changed when you sign your marriage license.
