USCIS messed up my address and set me up in another State for interview

Hi everyone,

I feel like my AOS battle has been such a problematic one. I hope anyone could give me hope by sharing their experiences if similar to my predicament.

Today I got a notice for my AOS interview scheduled on April 27th. The problem is that on the notice my address was listed in Lynnwood WA hence my interview was scheduled in Seattle.

The problem though is that I live in Denville, NJ. The envelope that the notice came in listed my correct address which is how I got this notice.

I called USCIS and they said to just go to my local immigration office on the scheduled date but that there is NO assurance that they would be able to entertain us.

This proves so problematic because my husband can't just leave his job for a "chance appointment" and we can't afford a ticket to Seattle for christ's sake.

Has anyone heard of a similar case? What did you guys do?

Make an infopass at your local office prior to the interview date and have a talk with them. To just show up at a random office on a day and say "hey, we were scheduled in WA but want the interview here today instead" will probably not go down well.

Also when you call USCIS absolutely insist that you are transferred to an actual Immigration Officer. The people who answer the phone are NOT Immigration Officers.

Make an INFOPASS appointment at the Newark Immigration Office. They are actually pretty helpful there. They are nice too. At least they were 3 years ago.

Thank you! I scheduled an appointment for the 25th then. Hopefully we'll know more!

UPDATE!

I went to the Newark Office today and they said that what they have on file is my correct NJ address so I guess we're good to go on the 27th. I was wondering though (because I was too nervous to ask im such an idiot). Do I need to do an infopass appointment for my AOS interview or is the appointment letter itself good enough?

Thank you!
