Hi,

I submitted form I 751 5 days ago because i was moving and wanted to have my new address. Now I only have 20 days left on my greencard but I am starting a new job in 2 days. ( reason why i moved).

My question is if I am in danger of being illegal in that job if i dont receive a notification in the mail. I am afraid of not getting anything because i just moved and they may send it to the wrong address or who knows. The fear is always there in this matters.

If i understand correctly as soon as i receive a notification by mail I have a 1 year extension and i am good. But if it takes longer than 20 days to get it, would I not be able to keep working at my new job?

Thanks,

We got our extension letter pretty quickly, so I'd think you'd get it before your current expires.. I'd explain the situation to your new employer and I'm sure they'll be understanding on it.

It looks like other April filers have only a few days between the package been received, and the NOA1 being generated with the extension note in it. Even if it takes longer for it to arrive in the mail.

Did you leave a forwarding address to your former USPS office? If not, you can always do it online. USPS will forward all your mail addressed/delivered to your old address to your new address. They do it for a year.

ok, they got it last wednesday so i guess i will get something this week.

thanks.

A state ID with a social security card is enough to prove you are authorized to work. I got a new job while my green card was expired and my ROC pending, all I had to show was my NY state ID any my social security card that had no restrictions written on it.
