Getting nervous about missing family and stuff

I did laugh at the cost of Bird's custard powder though - picked up a tin in Tesco for 98p a couple weeks ago on a trip to London. It's, like, $6 on Amazon!

When my best friend visits me, he either brings me teabags or tins of Heinz baked beans (he uses the space in his luggage on the way back to return home to his gf with American novelty confectionary). :)

I stocked up on a few bits when I came back from my holiday a few weeks ago too. But we also had so much to take home from what I'd left behind that we had to sacrifice anything too heavy. I really wanted to grab more than a few tins of Heinz beans! Every tin of baked beans has bacon in and some kind of 'HP' style brown sauce that is just not as easy to stomach. I ended up resorting to tins of plain beans and creating my own tomato sauce to cover them. Oh the things we resort to!

Hey guys

So anyone who's moved got any tips on how to deal with the initial couple of weeks where I'll inevitably miss my family? Been thinking about it alot the past couple of days and man, is it putting a big downer on me!

I try to keep myself busy doing household chores and I speak to my family once a day through FaceTime which does help ALOT, I recommend also doing the AOS ASAP by having a courthouse wedding and send out the AOS by the time you get ur wedding certificate that way if you have to wait 60 days to get the AP it won't feel to long, so I recommend getting that stuff prepared as well ;)

Once all paperwork been sent, it's normal to worry, try to find a hobby to keep your mind busy. I learned photography during that time and started shooting photos of animals, people and landscape for keeping my mind busy. I'm hikking a lot also lol.

Think about getting a Vonage.co.uk plan for £8/month.

Pick your UK number.

Bring the box with you and plug into your US router and plug any landline phone into the Vonage box.

Your friends and family call your UK number and it rings in your US home. No codes are dial arounds. Unlimited minutes. .They are calling a UK phone. You can use the same phone to call their landlines. There is a fee to call UK mobiles.

There is a setup to simultaneously ring your mobile when your UK Vonage phone rings. But because it is transferring from a a "UK phone number" to a US mobile, you would need the Premium Package for £11/month which allows unlimed calls to the US.

This Vonage thing is good for those with UK parents or grandparents or kids who don't have smart phones or Skype or What's app. They simply dial a UK phone number from any phone.

whatsapp is a free app for android and ios and allows free calling and text to and from anywhere in the world. We use it every day for calling there and they call here. Hubby's relatives live everywhere from the middle east, to UK and europe and south america.

Yes, we use whatsapp as well with the (now grown) kids in the UK, but eight years ago it wasn't possible. Grandmother (80-something) and others not so tech savvy prefer picking up their landline to call.
