Brooklyn Ferry/Cruise Port POE

Hello everyone,

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have experience with entering via a transatlantic cruise/crossing through Brooklyn port as a POE?

This is how we will be doing it, and I wonder about how often they deal with it as an immigration entry point.

Thanks!

There was someone last year who went by cruise ship but they entered through Miami. By all accounts it was very easy. Certainly an elegant way to arrive.

Thanks for the information JFH.

We are really excited about moving using the boat! We've got a dog and I couldn't imagine her in the cargo hold of a plane.

Yep and you can take as much luggage as you can squeeze into that cabin! No 23 kg airline restrictions for you.

Can I ask which cruise line you are using, we're going to return to the UK with a dog and wouldn't mind doing it by ship

The only cruise ship that allows you to take non-service dogs on is Queen Mary 2 (Cunard).

JFH is correct, we going via QM2. When I looked it seemed like there was also the possibility to go by container ship, so for the more adventurous that might be an option as well with a pup. It was just an expensive, and no where near as nice however.

If you decide that it is the way you want to go you'll need to call Cunard over a year in advance. We called 14 months ahead and they were full, I randomly called back and they had one spot, but it was sooner than we were hoping (it was nine months away), but we had to take the spot. Now we are in stressful situation of not having as much time for the visa process as we were expecting, but you can get your money back if you book through the US within 90 days of sailing. I'd recommend booking through the US as the prices are lower and fully refundable. You can look up more information here at this link. It is lush accommodation for the dogs, fresh biscuits every night before bed!

It is pricy, but when I priced out flying her in cargo it wasn't any less really, once everything was factored in.

The dogs are very well looked after on that sailing. A million times better than the cargo hold of a Boeing.
