Hey guys,

So we're currently waiting for our case number from NVC with a view for me to move over to the United States in July sometime, do you know if there are any restrictions when booking a flight over, to book a return flight for lets say November?

I wouldn't abandon the return ticket, I would use it (On current timelines the advance parole would be through by that point) but it's just a hell of a lot cheaper booking return flights than one ways, and I could just keep booking like that, having the return leg months in advance when I want to visit home.

Yes you can do that. If the AP for some reason is not there then you can cancel or rebook the trip home...

Cool, a return trip with British Airways for the date I want to move and the return journey for the visit is like £900, for the one way ticket it's almost £1500. Crazy

Yeah it's not cheap to do a one-way ticket. That's why most do a return and then just cancel the return ticket

This is what I'm planning to do as well :-) Just remember to cancel the return if your AP should get delayed!

No restrictions just remember to cancel the return portion of the ticket as soon as you arrive in the U.S. There were people reported as having left the country by the airline when they forgot to cancel the return portion.

Most airlines (I know BA don't) don't like you doing that, apparently its harder for them to then fill the seat if it's only one way

You shouldn't expect a refund, but you should be able to insist on a cancellation (rather than being a no-show).

Purchasing a one way with miles you or your spouse have accumulated in a long distance romance (no one-way surcharge) is another option, and one that avoids setting out future travel plans so far in advance when just beginning a bureaucratic process. My fiancee came over using miles in October 2012 using her K-1 visa and we will be heading back to Thailand next month using her new U.S. passport.

The only "cheap" one way I found was through Wow-airlines. However they are very limited in their US destinations.
