Travelling >10d prior to employment start date (E3 visa)

Hello!

I am Australian, planning to move to Alaska by obtaining the E 3 visa with
a sponsor as a veterinarian. I have planned to travel through the US for
more than 10 prior to my job start date.

If I Have the e3 visa approved in Australia can i get the visa waiver when I first enter the US so I can travel for
90d then pop in/out of another country (eg Canada), activating my E 3 visa?

Or is there any other way to travel for more than 10 days prior to my
employment start date?
