marriage certificate or certified marriage certificate

Hi everyone

I was wondering if I should submit a certified marriage certificate?

Our marriage took place in Ontario province in Canada, and there are two types of marriage certificates to order online

regular and certified (more elaborate with signatures)

currently I only have regular with our names, dates of birth, places of birth and location and date of marriage (ontario)

Of course it has the seal of the registrar.

Should I apply for the certified one and wait another 15 days to get it, or submit a copy the one I have and then have the certified one for the interview date???

Thanks!!!

You will need the official one. With signatures and seals/stamps. The other has signatures on it but it is really just for pictures. I have two as well and one has a wet signature from the mayor with was kinda cool, but we had to get the certified copy.

The one I have is also official and has seal/stamp and signature of the registrar official of Ontario.

How is it not official?

Anyone in Canada who knows if that's enough?

It's official if it indicates the marriage was registered. Send a photocopy because you won't get it back.

The USCIS just needs to know the marriage was officially registered with the government as opposed to sending a marriage license or or a pretty certificate from church.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I just checked it and it indicates the date of registration (1 month and 2 weeks after the marriage ceremony) as well as its registration number in Ontario province. I think that suffices....

I am not sure what that's for. Husband isn't Canadian. Thanks

That link is about documents available in Canada, where you got married. If you click on marriage certificates in the left column, it describes In detail the four different marriage certificates and which one might fit your original question.

Hi again,

That was very helpful. Thanks again

I have the second one

  • The "large" or "full-size" certificate is a computer-printed extract of information from provincial records. It is printed on currency-style paper stock, 21.6 x 17.8 cm or 7 x 8.25 in., with an intaglio border (Specimen from British Columbia).

Will it be sufficient for now? I ordered the certified one for future references, but it takes 15 business days to arrive and I need/want to submit my papers ASAP. Should I go ahead or wait for this certified copy to arrive???

Decisions! decisions!

Thanks again
