Readiness form question.

On the form of readiness is there anything that asks about prior commitments? Like days that would be bad for an interview. I am doing exams in May and June and although I am thinking my interview will likely occur at the end of June, it's possible it could clash with me exams mid June. Ultimately I'd just take the interview, but I would like to finish my course if possible.

The Notification of Applicant Readiness Form is here just so that you can see what is asked (here is an accompanying webpage too so that the form can be seen in context).

As you can see, there is nothing on the Notification of Applicant Readiness form that asks about prior commitments. I know that the DS-160 (for K1 visas) asks about your planned date of arrival in the US. There is anecdotal evidence that the embassy uses that as an aid when scheduling interviews. That may have with other visas too (e.g. those that complete the DS-260 form) but I don't know as I haven't gone through that process.

When I submitted my Notification of Applicant Readiness, I also sent the Immigrant Visa Unit a message to let them know about a fairly important commitment. I asked if it would be possible to have an interview to avoid and preferably have my interview before a certain date, although I recognise your situation is wanting it after a certain date. They did set an interview before that date but I have no idea if that is just luck or if my message made a difference or not. The webpage about contacting the Immigrant Visa Unit is here and the form to send them a message is linked to from that page (under one of the drop down menus). I imagine that they get a lot of emails so I wouldn't want everybody to deluge them for minor queries but things like this might be a good idea (not least to help you feel better that you're trying).

Alternatively, if you're trying to delay the interview then you could just delay submitting the Notification of Applicant Readiness Form.

Either way, and if I don't say it before... good luck with your exams! :) Big life events coming up, and I'm sure you'll do great! :)

Ah yes, there is that option too :) You can request a reschedule if the date isn't suitable for you. I have no experience of rescheduling so I cannot comment too much but I'm sure others would be able to should they have experience of that at the London embassy.

For London, the process to reschedule is on this webpage which is also the same webpage as I linked to above under the dropdown box: "I wish to change the date of my scheduled visa interview". It looks like it is just a case of filling in a little form on the website and waiting to hear back.

Alright, as I thought no real way. I don't want to delay my interview so I'll just hope it doesn't land on one of those days. I can't afford to wait for another interview since will be cutting it close for my daughter starting school. I will try emailing though :)

Simon :)

My British fiance just successfully rescheduled his interview.

On April 12, he received the interview date.

It clashed with an important business trip out of the country so he asked for two weeks beyond the scheduled date.

He was honest and polite and CLEAR that should they not be able to grant the new date, he would keep the old one and let the chips fall where they may with work.

Today, four days later, he received a written letter granting his request!

We're over the moon!

We had worried they would reschedule us months out but thankfully, it worked out!
