AOS & Marriage Cert

Ok, I know that I need a certified copy of our marriage certificate to file the AOS (from a K-1), but I was told that I need to wait for a few weeks before our marriage certificate is filed and fully entered into the system (our officiant is supposed to file it for us).

Is there any way to get a certified copy sooner, say we filed our Certificate ourselves? Any other suggestions? I would hate to waste time. We would like to file AOS soon after our wedding (especially so we can file for an EAD) so we don't have to worry about it for a while.

We obtained our marriage license from the County Recorder's Office in Oakland, CA and were told that we would receive our certified marriage certificate (along with certified copies) on the day of our wedding given that we would get married at the County Recorder's Office. We asked twice just to make sure since we want to send off my AOS application right after our civil wedding. Can someone confirm this?

We got our marriage license at Wayne County Clerk in Detroit, got married in a Chapel in Taylor. Then we went back to Wayne County Clerk to certify our marriage certificate. It was made at the same day.

So basically if we take the marriage certificate in ourselves(after the wedding), we can get our certified certificate the same day. (Copies too correct??) Since I know we will need a copy for the AOS, and also one for proof for name changes and such?

It really depends on the clerk's office. For example, where I was married we were told in no uncertain terms that they wouldn't accept anything other than an application for a certified copy by mail.

Exactly, every state and possibly every county is likely to have different rules.

We were able to get 2 certified copies of our Marriage Certificate within 5 minutes of the ceremony taking place, and charged just $3 each. I guess every county is different.

wow, we paid $22 for the first copy and $7 for the second one(at the same time).

They gave us certified copies (it is like original now) and kept the originals for record. I made a copy from certified copy and a paper that they stapled on the marriage certificate (it says that the document was compared with the original) to send with my AOS packet.
