Temporary/Conditional Green Card Question

Sorry if I put this in the wrong topic...I have two questions.

For a conditional green card - in the visa FAQs you have to have 2 friends write affidavits on how they personally know you and include their social security number. As much as our friends love us, that is something they will not do (put their social). Which I completely understand, anything can happen. Is that necessary?

Second Question- if we live in NYC and have to go on an interview -do I have to travel out of state or will the interview be in NYC?

We have a while before we start the filing procedures but I wanted to make sure we are starting to get prepared for anything we need proof of.

Thank you for your help!!!

I believe you are asking about removing the conditions on your GC. The affidavits are not required, and there is other stronger evidence you can provide such as a shared bank account/credit card/joint lease/joint car loan/joint health insurance ect.

To ensure you will be prepared save everything, your joint bank/CC statements, bills in both your names, documentation of trips together.

There is an office in NYC, if you are called for an interview it will be in the city.

Uhm, you are talking about the application for removal of conditions on your green card, right?

Affidavits are not necessary, and certainly not writing SSN's in the affidavits (name, DoB, place of residence is sufficient).

The interview will be at your local office, I'm sure there is one in NYC.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

Well as stated you dont NEED affidavits and if you choose to include them, they do not need their SSN. However, your friend's fears are utterly ridiculous as the affidavits would be seen only by USCIS government employees. Of course the USCIS can easily get their SSNs and any other information about them! Who do they think you're giving the affidavits to?

The point is moot however. It's good that you're thinking about ROC but try not to think too hard. Put a box aside with joint evidence. Make sure to have a regularily used joint account and/or credit card, buy and lease things like cars or homes jointly, and be sure that each spouse is the beneficiary of life insurance, 401k, wills, etc... With good evidence you won't get an interview. We didnt get an RFE or interview.

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.  - Dr. Seuss
