Interview - Birth Certificate

Hello there!

My fiancé and I are currently preparing for our interview in Montreal on May 16th and upon reviewing the required documents I notice that there may be some discrepancy between the type of birth certificate he needs. Apparently, in Canada there are two types, short-form and long-form. My fiancé carries his short-form around with him everywhere, but sites have been saying that we need a copy of the long-form. Is that correct? Has anyone else run into this issue?

You need the long form; you should be able to order it online and get it on time for the interview.

I had my short form. I needed my kids long form. Do you have his passport?

The short form worked for you? We don't have any kids.. And we do have his passport. We have a copy of that as well as his license.

That's kind of what I was thinking also. We may need it for future use so it may be better to have it just in case. Thank you!

as far as i knew the only reason you need the long form is to show who your parents are.. so as an adult im not sure what you need that for. and the only time i needed my kids long form was to get their passports. now im scared haha. i had the interview and was not told of any issue but now im scared >.<

I strongly suggest you get the long form. with your parents names on it. 100% get the long form!!

Get the long form and Photocopy it. You will need it to present at your interview in MTL. You will need to send a copy of it when you arrive in the US when applying for Adjustment of Status and EAD.

Get the long form. And then tell your fiance to stop carrying around his birth certificate. Every other document someone can get in Canada is based on their birth certificate!

My fiancé only had his short birth certificate. Two people looked at it during his interview in Montreal and they never said anything.

I got the Long Form certified copy from my birth province. Please do that in case they have issues with your short form. no need to add any AP processing delays after your interview

It's so easy and you have plenty of time to order the long form so I'd do it. I was asked at every step of my process for my long form BC.

Long form shows all the details of where the birth occurred, parents, weight of baby I think too! i ordered mine and my kids' online and received them pretty quickly.

in Canada the only difference between long and short is the parents names.
