Hey all!! Wife arrived with her daughter on Tuesday in Chicago. I suffered the drive to Chicago to pick them up. Anyway, my wife accompanied her daughter through the whole thing...embassy interview, cfo, airport dance...

My question: No one was ever asked about the IV fee? I know we have another fee to pay for the green card. When do we pay it? Do I need to wait to hear from USCIS? Does he daughter's green card magically appear in our mailbox?

Curiously yours,

R

Yes it is the ELIS fee paid to USCIS online, $165 if I remember correctly. You could have paid it before she arrived but no issue paying it now. I will find you the link

The lineup was the worst part. I waited about an hour after they landed until they emerged. Nothing serious though...just a lot of people stuck in the human traffic line. 1 or 2 easy questions and they were done.

Driving into Chicago, now there is true love. I would never go into one Illinois if I didn't have to. Doesn't recognize my conceal carry and also where more murders and shooting than any other city and yet I can't protect myself. What a cess pool. I won't even fly into that airport.

Glad they are here, tell your wife and daughter to never go back to Chicago!

It's not too bad...I ended up being there almost 3 hours for only $10

No problem, glad the whole process went smoothly for ya'll.

It was weird smooth...nothing like the K1 dance. How long does it take for the green card to arrive? Do I need it to get her an SSN?

4-8 weeks for the green card is what I have been reading (once ELIS payment is completed).

I would think she would need an SSN for you to claim her on taxes.

Thanks Hank!!

Do I need the green card to apply for SSN?

Thanks!!

I have read many times that the SSN application is part of the immigration process (included). Did you keep copies of all the forms you completed? If the SS card doesn't show up in a few weeks maybe a trip to SSA is next on your list.

Hopefully someone that has completed the immigration process can confirm this.

SSN is part of the residency. they will automatically get it. some get it within two weeks of arriving. if you don't get it in a month go to the SS office. but that's automatic process. the green card is the one you must pay for.
