Hi,

Since I'm a permanent resident, I'm not working anymore. I do some investments for income. Should I write in this section unemployed or self employed?

Thanks

Klaus

Generally, self-employed refers to having your own business or freelancing.

Investing on your own behalf isn't quite as clear:

- If you are day trading stocks and making a living off of your profits, then i would write self-employed.

- If you have some money in the bank and you're earning interest on it, I would not consider self-employed.

That's not an official USCIS view, it's just my opinion.

Some people also write down "homemaker", "housewife", "househusband", "retired", and so on in answer to this question.

The wording isn't very important; what they'll want to see is your history of where (if anywhere) you were an employee and that you paid taxes on you're income.
