I'm using insu buy until I have a job. It was recommended to me and I know of one who had to use her insurance from them and had no issues doing so.

Did you check to make sure the parents don't have travel insurance through their home insurance?

First of all, thank you all for replying.

When you all say to get the travel insurance through the airline companies, it confuses me slightly. I am merely looking for coverage just in case something happens while they staying here for three months and if they have to go to the doctor for whatever reason, i don't want to pay a huge bill. They are not ill and don't have preexisting conditions.

I can see it is confusing from a US perspective, but in most other countries Travel Insurance is widely available/ heavily advertised. Everybody and his dog will sell you a policy.

Obviously an Airline is interested in making some money, after all they have a direct in to somebody flying out of the country who would need it so most/all will have a link on their web site. Same way they want to sell you car hire and hotel accommodation.

I bought for my parents 3 months of travel insurance through Bank, I bought mine through HL Assurance. I am not sure if your spouse's country bank offers travel insurance. I got mine pretty cheap compared to other insurance companies I've asked for. They quoted me for 3 months basic coverage at around 600 dollars, my parents are at mid 60s, moreover I've got a promo for 50% off. I think its better to buy from your spouse's country than US. I've compared it too, it aint cheaper.

There is also an option where you can pick to buy for your parent in law + spouse instead of 2 adults. Theres a huge price difference on that.

Hope that helps.

Once, we choose an option that fits us the best. How likely is this insurance to be accepted in the USA with the care takers?

You're going to have to study the fine print and any provider information for your plan and what doctors in the area accept such a plan. Some insurances are based upon which plan you have purchased and you can search on their website databases via zipcode for providers that may accept it. I'd also check out if any urgent care clinics in your area accept it (because for a basic ailment or injury chances are you're going to go there rather than wait a long time to see a doctor). Also keep in mind, that just like any insurance - while a hospital may state they accept such insurance, the doctor or PA you see may not. I'd say you're going to have better success with an American based company than a foreign one, but I have seen many instances of some doctors not accepting the coverage. Doesn't mean you'll encounter that problem if you search and plan ahead.

Once, we choose an option that fits us the best. How likely is this insurance to be accepted in the USA with the care takers?

If you use the site above (insu buy) you can check which network each plan works with. The comprehensive plans sold by IMG are widely accepted in the USA but you need to check. They have a search function where you put in your zip code and it shows which medical providers in your area accepts the insurance.

The insurance plans on that site work like US health insurance. You select the deductible, co-insurance and maximum coverage and it gives you the monthly premium. As said before, these plans usually don't cover anything related to pre-existing symptoms. A few of them have limited amounts of coverage for acute recurrence of a pre-existing conditions. If they have a covered event at an in-network hospital, you pay the deductible and co-insurance, and the hospital would bill the plan for the rest. (up to the coverage amount they selected).

ETA: they sell two types of plans, fixed coverage and comprehensive. Fixed coverage means they pay a fixed amount for each procedure or event. Comprehensive covers up to the maximum amount of coverage they select. The fixed coverage plans are cheap for a reason and I would recommend avoiding them.
