2014 Taxes

I am preparing my tax documents for when I reach the NVC stage and I realize that my W2 has a lower amount for my wages than what is on my 2014 tax transcript. The difference is almost $90 more than what I made in 2014. Would this pose a problem? Should I ammend my 2014 taxes?

As far as I know you only need to provide tax transcript you dont have to show w2's

That's not to say that it's not a good idea to amend your tax return if you actually made a mistake and entered your W2 data wrong (as opposed to the difference being a result of other income you had). Just be aware that it takes up to 16 weeks for IRS to actually process your amended return.

No it was a simple mistake with what I entered for my wages. I am shocked because I am usually pretty good with numbers.

I had no other income just my regular salary.

Then I'd file an amended return ASAP and be sure to make a copy of the 1040X and the supporting documents so that if it's not processed before you reach the NVC stage and can get an updated transcript, you can attach it (along your W2 and other relevant documents) and send it to the NVC instead. It's only a minor discrepancy so I wouldn't be too worried about it, but I'd definitely be upfront about it and not try to conceal it.

Ok thank you. I would feel more comfortable amending it.

~~moved to taxes and finances from IR1/CR1 process and procedures. Question is about taxes not the I-864~~

I would so totally ignore it for only $90. Normally by now the IRS computers would have caught it because they get the same W2 information. If they find an error they send you a letter saying there is an error and you owe them $7 additional tax.

Amend it later especially if you don't have to pay money back. But if you do, than IRS will add interest to whatever additional amount you have to payback.
